**Hours of work**
- Monday to Thursday -08.00 to 16.30hrs
- Friday - 08.00hrs to 14.30hrs
- Additional time to be worked as required by specific jobs

**Purpose**

Providing safety and health advice, guidance and support for all business activities within Cammell Laird by using specialist knowledge to champion safety, health and environmental issues and identify and share best practice as part of the management team and as part of the service delivery to internal and external clients.

**Key Responsibilities**

1. To act as an active member of the Cammell Laird Management Teams by providing expert health, safety & environmental knowledge, and information.

2. To develop Cammell Laird strategic HSE approach in compliance with Cammell Laird OHSEMS policies, Instructions, and guidance.

3. To advise relevant Department Heads / Managers within their areas and to support them in the control and mitigation of HSE risks.

4. Be an active member of the Cammell Laird HSE Team providing practical safety advice, support and guidance on safety leadership and management and developing approaches to adapt to the different areas as appropriate.

6. To regularly develop and deliver Safety Briefings (toolbox talks) to offer guidance in safe and healthy working practices to supervisors and employees.

7. Develop rules, formats, processes and procedures for investigations and assessments to define and improve commercial service delivery within HSE to contribute to improving Cammell Laird’s competitive position.

8. Work closely with the Ship/Project Managers to ensure that Health & Safety legislation is identified and reviewed in all production operations and to verify and communicate the consequences of failing to comply with these.

9. Ensure investigations into the root causes of incidents relating to Cammell Laird operations are conducted and to act as, where appropriate, lead investigator for moderate and high-risk incidents.

10. Plan and undertake as required Cammell Laird site and client/ third party site safety tours, safety

11. Be the ‘Area Champion’ for an area of the business offering appropriate advice, guidance and support through regular meetings and identification of training and other needs. This will include facilitating the monthly inspection programme for a specific designated area of the site, ensuring prompt corrective and preventative actions are taken.

12. Analyse safety performance data and produce reports as required.

13. Monitor the procurement, appropriateness, and use of PPE for Cammell Laird and provide advice as required to Department Heads for their respective Areas of any particular PPE requirements for staff.

14. Work with clients’ safety teams on key (moderate and high risk) third party sites and, where appropriate, set up joint safety initiatives with other similar parties.

15. To support the Operations / Production Directors in the continual development of the organisation’s OHSEMS and ensure implementation at shop floor level.

16. Undertake continued professional development (CPD) through the development of safety competencies and safety networking opportunities.

17. Attend and present at, as appropriate, Cammell Laird Safety Committee and other Management / project meetings as required.

**Qualifications/Skills**

**Relevant Skills - **E = Essential D = Desirable

**Relevant Technical/Professional Qualification Required**

1. NEBOSH - Diploma level or equivalent degree/calibre or working towards - D

2. NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent - E

3. Technical Member of IOSH - D

4. At least 2 years full time experience in a HSE Advisor role - E

5. IRCA approved certification in internal / lead auditor - D

6. Full UK driving licence - E

**Knowledge/Experience/Attributes**

1. Proven track record in the marine / steel fabrication or related sectors in health and safety with robust understanding of the working conditions faced by Cammell Laird employees, including practical experience - E

2. Knowledge of current HSE legislation - E

3. Up to date knowledge of current environmental legislation - D

4. An assertive approach to problem solving with strong communication and diplomacy skills to guide, negotiate, influence and persuade at all levels - E

5. Ability to work effectively as part of the business management team and with production operational managers - E

6. Good influencing and motivational skills demonstrated through advice, counsel or facilitating services to others - E

7. Enthusiastic, flexible and results-oriented approach
