**Description of Department**:
The Sensitive Intelligence Unit (SIU) is a nationally accredited secure environment for the receipt, development and dissemination of “all-source” intelligence and data relating to the serious crime threat.

The SIU proactively supports CoLP and partner agencies in supporting their Serious Organised Crime (SOC) missions by bringing high quality timely actionable intelligence product to operational teams while providing the necessary safeguarding measures to protect covert and sensitive methodology and assets.

**Purpose of the Role**:
The Intelligence Researcher is a vital member of the SIU team, identifying connections in information and developing intelligence to tackle serious organised crime.

Your primary role is to provide operational research support to the Intelligence Development Officers and Analysts, using a wide range of law enforcement and open source data bases to evaluate and enhance information to create high quality intelligence products directly related to proactive investigations by specialist units in the City of London Police.

You will also assist in identifying and developing intelligence product to identify opportunities for new investigations and operations as well as providing dynamic research support the activities of the City’s covert units.

**Applicants should be aware that due to the nature of the work of the SIU**:

- this is an office based role with limited home working opportunities, and
- The successful applicant will be required to sign a Confidentiality Agreement on taking up the post and to complete the Developed Vetting (DV) process

**Essential Criteria**:

- Proven experience of research and intelligence processing in a serious crime related capacity.
- A strong team working ethic and a willingness to be take ownership of tasks and activities
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to represent the SIU to internal and external stakeholders.

**Types of Qualification(s) needed**:

- You will be expected to enrol upon and be capable of completing the College of Policing’s Intelligence Professionalisation Programme within 12 months of appointment

**Desirable Criteria (If applicable)**:

- Good working knowledge of the National Intelligence Model (NIM) and the Management of Police Information (MOPI)
- An understanding of relevant legislation including RIPA 2000, IPA 2016 and PA 1997, including the relevant Codes of Practice.
- Familiarity with assessing threat and risk in dynamic environments using the National Decision Model.

**Selection Process**:
A failure to achieve the vetting requirements will result in the officer being referred to HR for redeployment.
