Lytham St Annes, United Kingdom Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are looking for a Band 5 substantive Speech and Language Therapist to join our Integrated Community Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation Service, based at Ansdell Medical Centre.

It is an exciting time to join the team as we are currently working with the commissioning group to enhance our service to enable us to offer more to the people of Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre as well as developing a truly Integrated Community Stroke and Neuro Rehabilitation Service.

We are looking for someone who is motivated, keen and innovative to support the work that is currently underway and contribute in making the Integrated Community Stroke and Neuro Rehab Service truly great.

If you enjoy working in a multi-disciplinary team then this could be the role for you. We are open to considering both part-time and full-time working hours and will provide you with the IT equipment to support flexibility to work from home, the office and in the community. We also offer in-house development for upskilling and training as well have access to funding for specific training needs.

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic community Speech and Language Therapist for the ICSNRS.

The post holder will ideally have some knowledge and experience of working with stroke and neurology patients but this is not essential. As one of the community speech and language therapists, you will be providing a responsive and person-centred service, delivering the best client outcome through supporting and optimising peoples recovery at home, meeting their physical and mental health and social care needs and bridging the transition between acute hospital, primary and community care settings.

The post holder will provide holistic, individual assessments and rehabilitation in a variety of settings within the community, including patients own home, clinics, intermediate care and care homes for clients who have acquired a stroke or neurological diagnosis.

The post holder will enable our clients to achieve their goals to enable independence and improve their quality of life by working collaboratively across the different care groups. The post holder will need to manage a clinical caseload of clients, with support from more senior SLTs as required.

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is ideally situated just a forty five minute drive from Manchester. The Trust provides services to the 440,000 residents of Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre and North Lancashire, as well as specialist tertiary care for Cardiac and Haematology patients.

As one of the United Kingdom’s largest coastal resort, Blackpool has plenty to offer its residents - it’s not just a good place to work; it’s a great place to live. In addition to its bustling centre and historic seafront, the town is world famous for its many attractions, including the famous Blackpool Tower. Blackpool also offers a number of scenic cycling routes round our local parks and across the surrounding countryside, as well as boasting panoramic views of the coast on its picturesque Promenade. Further afield, Blackpool also benefits from less than three-hour connections via rail to Edinburgh in the north and London in the south.

We recommend that all individuals employed in patient facing roles, or those located on a ward or department where patients receive a service should be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

To act as a speech and language therapist (SLT) within the ICSNRS interdisciplinary team delivering a high standard of person-centred care to:

- assess and provide input to clients with communication and swallowing needs, due to stroke or neurological condition, within a variety of community settings including their own home, clinics and care homes.
- enable clients and their carers to work towards common goals promoting independence and quality of life using a holistic approach to support their health and wellbeing.
- assist in the clinical supervision and education of SLT students and therapy assistants.
- promote an understanding of the role of Speech and Language Therapists to service users, the Trust staff and wider Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre community.
- work within and adhere to the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct, The Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) Standards of Practice, relevant Trust policies, procedures and guidelines.
- To work under the guidance and supervision of senior members of staff, as required, to further their professional and personal development including participation in department training sessions.

Please review the job description and personal specification for further details.
