London, United Kingdom Financial Conduct Authority Full time

Senior Data Management Associate

The Senior Data Management Associate role provides a great opportunity to develop and drive the implementation of the Data Management agenda. You’ll play a key role, helping the FCA find and define its critical metadata, working with senior stakeholders to ensure our Data Management policy controls are embedded across the organisation.

You’ll also get to be part of our Data Discovery work, working with the Data Discovery team to provide proactive business engagement and support services to understand business problems our stakeholders are trying to solve. You will help them to identify, develop and implement data solutions.

This is a role where both stakeholder management and technical ability (SQL/Python/similar) will be key. The role will help improve how the FCA regulates the financial industry and playing a leading part in making us a data led regulator

The team and our tooling were recently short listed at the “Real IT Awards” for best Technology Refresh for our work in building a new Data Governance tooling suite. The awards will be in May

The FCA:
The FCA has three core objectives. It is responsible for ensuring that markets operate with integrity; promoting effective competition in the financial industry; and protecting consumers of financial services. We have a wide range of rulemaking, supervisory and enforcement powers to support these objectives. All of which are supported by data.

What does the role involve?- Play a critical role in educating and driving stakeholders to collect and define business metadata and building an understanding of how data is being used in the organisation- Support the development and delivery of Data Management principles and services to govern data across the FCA, providing support and guidance to business areas where required- Analyse and use data visualisation tools such as Tableau to present analysis clearly and concisely- Problem solving and understanding complex data landscapes- Play an ambassador role in championing effective Data Governance within the organisation

What will you get from the role?- Play a key role in the FCA Data Strategy and in delivering the Data Management agenda- You will have the opportunity to work with and influence a wide range of internal stakeholders- Influencing Data Management at the FCA gives you the opportunity to influence Data Management across the industry and wider- We will help you develop your career; we recognise our people have their own aspirations and we are here to support- And last but not least - we’re (we like to think) a great team, there’s as much or as little ‘social stuff’ as you want to get involved with. The team is friendly all round, we’re welcoming and lots of us are also still new. We like to enjoy our work and a big part of that is how we work together.

What are we looking for?

Minimum Criteria- Experience of Data Management implementations within complex organisations. This includes (but is not limited to), Data Management tooling, metadata management, data ownership, data lineage, data quality, and reference and master data management.- Experience in extracting and manipulating raw data, gathering appropriate insights (preferably SQL or Python)- Data Analysis and Data Visualisation experience, with an ability to present complex data problems with concise summaries for business use.- Strong stakeholder management skills: the individual will need to be able to work with a range of stakeholders at all levels, influencing and delivering credible findings to achieve positive outcomes.

Essential Criteria- Ability to produce concise and persuasive written outputs and verbally convey any issues clearly- Ability to think strategically, contributing to both team-level as well as departmental-wide priorities- Experience of troubleshooting data issues and providing solutions- Be a team player, we work collaboratively here, and if one person is struggling, we work together to achieve the teams’ goals.- Ability to identify new opportunities for analysis, identify problem areas and create insights

Desirable Criteria- Experience of projects/programmes that deliver data management work products or improvements- Able to converse in both technical (data systems) and business language.- Experience within the financial services industry in Data Management and/or relevant regulations (such as BCBS 239)- An appreciation of how data can be utilised as an asset to the organisation to drive the corporate data strategy- Having experience of working with Data Management best practice frameworks (such as EDM Council and DAMA)- Familiarity with one, or more, Data Quality tools

What can we offer you?

We offer a competitive and flexible benefits scheme giving you the opportunity to create a personalised benefits package, tailored to suit your lifestyle. You will receive a flexible allowance in addition to your salary to purchase further benefits such as Critical illness
