Financial Reporting Accountant

Due to ongoing growth, the Apption Labs group is looking for a high calibre individual to join the Finance Team. Apption Labs is a rapid growth company based in the IoT sector specialising in wireless meat thermometers.

In this newly created role as Financial Reporting Accountant, you will be a vital member of the finance team with key involvement on the financial reporting and for ensuring accounting implications are considered in all commercial, operational and strategicdecisions. This will be a broad role where flexibility is essential. It is a perfect opportunity for a first mover from practice with scope to build on from financial reporting to other aspects of finance.

**Duties will include**:

- Support the year end process of the annual financial statements for all group companies.
- Producing balance sheet reconciliations including intercompany reconciliations.
- Posting of accruals and prepayments.
- Updating the fixed asset register and posting depreciation journals.
- Managing stock reports to ensure accuracy.
- Production of monthly overhead reporting by department.
- Prepare annual financial statements ensuring they are compliant with local and international standards. (US GAAP)
- Assist with the annual audit
- Preparing consolidated accounts.
- Prepare regulatory, tax and other external reports.
- Provide technical accounting, regulatory reporting and tax insight.
- Liaise with external professional services providers.
- Assist with the preparation of R&D tax relief calculations.
- Assist with the preparation of P11Ds.
- Support the wider finance team.
- Production of reports on departmental KPIs.
- Compilation of monthly and quarterly international VAT returns
- Submission of quarterly UK VAT return to HMRC
- Perform reconciliations and journal entries as part of month end close
- Responsible for posting and reporting on revenue
- Regular reports on sales figures to key stakeholders
- Provide statistical data to governments, e.g. ONS reports, Intrastat

**About you**:

- You will be thirsty for increasing your knowledge of accounting and finance and combining this with commercial, operations and strategy.
- You will understand both the importance of data and how IT and automation can be used to make finance and operations run smoothly and efficiently. Microsoft Office will be a breeze and you may have had experience in a variety of accounting systems.
- You will be able to handle the life of a start-up as it transitions and goes through the phase of scaling up.
- You will be a helpful and approachable person.
- You will be a flexible individual eager to try tasks that you may not have done before.
- You will be analytical and have great attention to detail and use this analysis to help with problem solving. Diving into the data will be no problem.
- You will be innovative and try to suggest improvements on how finance works and have a desire for providing solutions to the challenges you face in your day to day role.
- You will have an inquisitive mind that is curious about not only finance, but the wider business itself.
- You will have excellent organisational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects.

**Some experience/interests/skills you may have**:

- SME accounts/audit preparation.
- Tax and VAT filing.
- R&D tax credit filing.
- Creating excel models.
- A keen interest in technology.
- An interest in eCommerce and online selling.
- Entrepreneurial experience.
- Implementation of new processes.
- Working on a range of cloud-based accounting and business systems.
- Working with large data sets.
- Whilst we are flexible on your experience to date, you will have completed or be working towards a professional qualification such as CIMA/ACA/ACCA and ideally have completed a minimum 2 years on the job experience.

The Finance team is a small team of 5, who are all relatively new and are aiming to be a key component in supporting the business as it grows and develops. Our aim is to go beyond simply filing reports and to use our skills to guide, provide insight andsolution-based advice driven from the data we provide. We love to go the extra mile. Data is at the heart of what finance is about and we are keen to use automation and data analytics to achieve our goals. As such we want all our team to be competent in IT.We are also very keen to develop individuals and as a growing team there will be plenty of opportunities to work on different areas of accounting and finance.

We have very recently transitioned from using Xero and Cin7 to Epicor as our financial software. Therefore, we need all individuals to be able to adapt to change and assist in making the finance team and the wider business stronger and more efficient.
