This role will assess the Library service development possibilities, and barriers, in respect of asylum seekers and refugees, and benchmark our Library against established libraries of sanctuary. It will seek to understand both community needs and service potential, and make recommendations for service development.

The work will focus on opportunities presented by our spaces, our collections and our public library service (Old Aberdeen Library). It will connect with ongoing work in relation to Old Aberdeen Library, Library space transformation, and public engagement through our museums and special collections. It will also support emerging thinking about the community building opportunities presented by objects in our collections in terms of their origins and relationship with people, particularly new Scots.

We are looking for a student with a passion for equality, diversity and inclusion and an enthusiasm to make a difference for those seeking refuge. There is no requirement to demonstrate academic expertise in any particular discipline, but the role will require a high standard of verbal and written communication skills.

The intern will be provided with an overview of relevant Library and University work, and wider orientation from Grampian Regional Equality Council. They will be expected to be self-motivated, well able to manage their time, and capable of synthesising multiple sources of information into a formal report at the end of the internship.

The intern will learn about University and Library strategy and organisational structures, approaches to service development, and the translation of ideas into operational plans.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 2, £21,134 per annum.
