An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the OCCU (Oncology Critical Care Unit) Team as a Housekeeper.

We are looking for a Housekeeper to assist with co-ordination of all facilities making sure that we have a clean, safe and comfortable environment.
- To monitor all cleaning equipment in the department against agreed standards and policy including specialist equipment within the procedure rooms.
- To document all checks undertaken, areas of concern and action taken, inputting the data correctly.
- To Undertake weekly audits with domestic supervisor and ensure that remedial actions are taken where indicated
- To ensure that the unit has sufficient stock to meet patients and staff needs, ordering stock on line, reporting shortages and maintaining records as appropriate.
- To manage the estates call logbook, ensuring all defects are logged, reported, recorded and completed as appropriate
- To ensure the working environment and visitors areas are kept stocked up and clean and tidy
- To assist patients with their dietary needs.

We are looking for an individual, who possesses excellent communication skills, hardworking, reliable and dedicated with good organisational skills. The post holder must be able to work flexibly, methodically and unsupervised and must be resilient under pressure.

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

**Clinical Support**:

- To answer queries promptly and courteously, taking appropriate actions according to the mode of enquiry or the information required.
- To inform or refer enquiries or problems to the relevant qualified staff where appropriate.
- When necessary initiate and assist with basic cardio-pulmonary resuscitation procedure.
- At the delegation of the Registered Nurse transfer the patient/client from one care area to another, i.e. reception to clinic area or discharge lounge/ other ward.
- Provide assistance in mobilising patients from trollies, wheelchairs & toilets.
- Welcome and orientate patients, visitors and others to the department and ensure that all communications result in effective customer care.
- To prepare and serve snacks and beverages to patients as appropriate in line with trust hygiene and food handling policy.

**Environment Support**:

- Check and record fridge temperatures daily
- To ensure the Unit area is clean and tidy with particular responsibility for clean and dirty utility rooms, storeroom, linen store
- To check the Unit’s linen provision and ensure sufficient supply for daily procedures.
- To clean, return to store and daily co-ordinate maintenance/repair of clinical and non-clinical equipment e.g. infusion pumps as specified.
- To strip, clean, remake trolleys and clean patient area upon patient discharge.
- To collect full bags of soiled linen and move to collection points.
- To receive and check stores and other supplies and put them away in appropriate storage places.
- To order stock / non stock items as instructed by Senior Sister
- To ensure blinds, curtains and soft furnishings are maintained and to co-ordinate cleaning and re-hanging.
- To undertake cleaning duties in accordance with the schedules and procedures of the OCCU including cleaning of mirrors, pictures, lockers, tables, lights, lampshades ,trollies, surfaces.
- Clean under trolley chairs weekly and after patient discharge.
- Ensure hand-washing equipment soap, paper towels, alcohol hand gel available at all sinks.
- To undertake domestic duties e.g. removal of clinical and household refuse, dishwashing and any other duties, which are appropriate to maintain a high standard of cleanliness in conjunction with the existing domestic service.
- To record and action requests for basic/minor maintenance e.g. light bulbs, blocked sinks etc and to monitor their completion.
- To check fixtures/fittings weekly and report for maintenance. If no action after two weeks then report to Senior sister/Unit Manager.
- To ensure kitchen is kept clean at all times and ensure good stock rotation system is in operation for dry goods and provisions.
- To ensure items of equipment are labeled and sent to store room when out of use.
