An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3 Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Therapy Team at Parklands Hospital.

Southern Health provides a wide range of mental health, physical health and learning disability services for people across Hampshire through a team over 6,500 staff who work from over 300 sites. **Main duties of the job**

Carrying out an Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy interventions on designated patients as delegated from the registered therapists, reporting back and communicating with their supervisor on all aspects of therapy provision and progression.

Continuously assess patient’s progress, and discharge patients when necessary, as agreed with a Physiotherapist or Occupational Therapist.

Carrying out mobility practice and personal and domestic activities of daily living with patients independently, and report back to a therapist if there is any change to their condition or any new identified problem.

Implementing specific treatment activities under the guidance of registered therapy staff on an individual patient basis.

Demonstrating safe practice of manual handling techniques, regarding patients and equipment, in a variety of locations often in confined spaces (e.g., patients bathroom, toilet, rooms cluttered with furniture and household items or on ward or clinical areas).

Carrying out basic administration tasks as required by the registered staff, e.g. photocopying, filing of patients records, taking telephone messages.

**Qualifications**

**Essential**

NVQ 3 in relevant health care topic or equivalent relevant experience

**Experience and Knowledge**

**Essential Criteria**

Previous experience working in health or social care

Experience of working with people with physical health care/mental health care needs

Basic understanding of clinical conditions and disability

Basic IT skills

Ability to work within a team

**Desirable Criteria**

Broad experience of working within a variety of patient focussed situations

Patient facing NHS experience

Understanding of multidisciplinary team working

**Skills and abilities**

Good verbal communication skills

Good skills in writing and record keeping

Ability to prioritise work

Good time management skills

Experience of assisting Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and/or Nursing professions
