Submarine Delivery Agency (SDA) have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lead Engineer to join our Nuclear Propulsion team at MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol. By joining SDA, you will integrate with a team of highly skilled professionals and get up-closeand personal with complex submarine and nuclear propulsion systems. You will oversee engineering challenges unique to this industry, whilst providing support to the Royal Navy and a significant contribution to project/programme success.

As senior member of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to be an authority on nuclear system engineering, manufacturing techniques, production facility design, procurement of infrastructure and coordination of these complex disciplines. You will reportto senior civil servants and senior officers in the Royal Navy, operating at lead level to deliver engineering focussed procurement and to provide specialist insight on the needs of the submarine programme. The infrastructure programme itself is brand new,granting the opportunity to influence portfolio strategy, programme design and project success, whilst impacting successful outcomes during new submarine production.

Due to the nature of this work, working with stakeholders is critical to success. You will therefore be required to uphold strong and productive relationships with senior SDA stakeholders and be the intelligent customer to UK industry partners within thenuclear enterprise, most notably Rolls Royce.

In the SDA you will have unparalleled opportunities to learn and develop as a professional and will be actively supported in this respect. Training is readily available, invested in and essential to stay abreast with new technologies and you will be workingin an environment that encourages this.

**About the role**

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

- Set customer requirements during development and maintenance by industry of a new Site Infrastructure Plan and individual facility designs, interacting with nuclear system engineers and different functions to ensure coherent planning.
- Procure the delivery by industry of new buildings, plant & machinery, jigs & tools, IT systems and other infrastructure, as set out in the Site Infrastructure Plan, including managing the customer’s responsibilities and liabilities during acquisition.
- Ensure alignment and integration with activity in separate engineering projects forming inter-dependencies across the naval nuclear propulsion programme.
- Provide technical leadership related to customer requirements and nuclear regulations to solve complex problems with innovative solutions to support improved performance and enhance capability.
- Interface with industry as the intelligent customer on infrastructure projects and help SDA and industry understand technical risks.
- Provide governance, assurance and advice on new facility projects forming the infrastructure programme within the nuclear propulsion portfolio, to guide and influence senior leaders, scientists and decision makers.
- Will have safety responsibilities for some of these new facilities.

**Person specification**
- Chartered or Incorporated Engineer
- Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects
