Apprentice Grounds Maintenance Operative

Working alongside an experienced team of grounds maintenance operatives, you will be supported by a mentor for the course of your Apprenticeship. Full training will be provided both on and off-the-job in order to increase your knowledge and competence.
**What you will do in your working day**
The successful applicant will have an interest and enthusiastic approach to gardening work and be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions. Applicants overall duties are to work in accordance with the contract specification and in a safe manner with regard for members of the public and other team members, projecting a positive and professional image of Sharpes at all times.
The successful applicant will be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions. The role will include:
- Grounds maintenance such as grass cutting, raking, edging, weeding, sweeping, litter picking etc.

Using various horticulture machinery, such as strimmers, mowers and hedge cutters.

You will also be required to do checks on machinery and ensure that it is well maintained, ensuring security of equipment and suitability for operation. A high standard of Health & Safety is expected at all times, taking care of equipment being used and general personal wellbeing.
**The training you will be getting**
- Horticulture Level 2 qualification
- Training will take place at DCG and the workplace.
- Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (Ofqual registered) minimum 1-day course
- Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in Safe Use of Pesticides OR City and Guilds Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides
- Lantra Awards Level 2 Award in the Safe Application of Pesticide Using Hand Held Equipment OR City and Guilds Level 2 Award In The Safe Application of Pesticides Using Pedestrian Hand Held Equipment
**What to expect at the end of your apprenticeship**
- Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship there are prospects of progression to full-time employment with an advanced career in horticulture.
