Sewing Machinist

Galashiels, United Kingdom Aero Leather Clothing Co Full time

**Machinist**

**Full Job Description**

**Permanent**

**Hours - 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday**

This role offers a salary which meets the national living wage, a pension plan, employee discounts, plus 28 days paid annual leave and a 35-hour working week with a ‘half day’ Friday.

**About the role**

We’re looking for a reliable, enthusiastic, and hardworking individual to join our factory team as a machinist. As a machinist, your primary role will be sewing leather jackets together start to finish (we do not work on an assembly line) which are ordered by customers and shops from around the world.

This involves sewing together the composite leather panels/lining parts which are passed to you by our cutting team using a traditional walking foot machine. We have a wide range of styles which you will gradually learn and be expected to make, as well as repair work to carry out on used and vintage jackets.

Previous experience in sewing and clothing manufacturing is required, but experience with sewing and working with leather in particular is not essential as full training in ‘leather craft’ will be provided.

Because we are a small dynamic team, periodically you will be expected to assist in other roles in the factory depending on business needs such as helping to stock take, clean/organise the factory, cover other factory roles such as linings or small finishing tasks and being flexible to other reasonable requests made by management.

**What are we looking for?**

We are also looking for an individual that is hard working and reliable. Your role is very important and heavily connected to the rest of the team’s workflow, so punctuality, reliability, and a proven ability to meet targets/deadlines are essential qualities required for the role.

We have a strong brand reputation for quality workmanship and work with expensive materials, so we need someone who takes care and pride in their work and has a particularly high attention to detail.

Our business environment is busy and fast paced, so you will be required to be able to work unsupervised with your own initiative and keep your workspace tidy to avoid mistakes across the team.

As advised, while previous experience in sewing in general is required, experience with sewing and working with leather is not essential as full training will be provided.

**About us**

Aero Leathers are a vintage clothing company specialising in manufacturing leather jackets. We’re seen by many in our niche industry as the manufacturers of the finest and toughest leather jackets in the world, famed for kick-starting the industry shift to Horsehide in the 1980s and pioneering the reproduction leather jacket industry in the 40 years since.

Today, we continue to expertly craft the very best leather jacket styles from the early-mid 20th century from some of the finest materials in the world and from start to finish, each Aero jacket is entirely by hand in our factory with no shortcuts - an approach to workmanship that’s unfortunately increasingly rare these days.

Although our jackets are what we’re most famous for, over the years we’ve also designed and curated a large range of clothing and accessories to compliment the jackets we make and have become the go-to vintage clothing brand for aficionados and casual buyers alike.

We’re a family-run business, and we have a team of around 25 working at our Galashiels factory. We sell both retail and wholesale both domestically and around the world, with our largest international markets in U.S. Japan and Germany.

We’ve invested a lot in our growth over the last few years, including successfully launching our new website at the end of last year. This year, we’re making moves to take our business to the next level and we’re looking for hardworking and energetic individuals to join our team and grow with us
