Senior Operator

**Reporting to**:
Production Manager

**Duties & responsibilities**

**Primary Roles**:

- General soldering skills, understanding the relevant IPC standards.
- Panel wiring.
- Able to interpret electrical schematic diagrams and mechanical layout drawings.
- Wiring control systems - Including looming, cable crimping and cable terminating work.
- Fitting backplates and doors with trunking and DIN rail and various components including fuse switches, contactors, relays, and terminals.
- Sub-assembly processes (e.g. drilling, milling, bonding).
- General electro-mechanical assembly (box build).
- Cable/sensor/probe assembly.
- Packing of finished goods.
- Create EMS Workbooks.
- Accurately record/communicate company & product data to the Company Quality Management System standards.
- Comply with all health and safety requirements as stipulated within standard operating procedures & company procedures.
- Involvement/participation in team projects & process improvement initiatives.

**Secondary Role**:

- Setup and operate computer controlled SMT assembly line to fulfil the requirements of the Work Plan, ensuring maximum output and mínimal quality issues.
- Setup board loader, conveyors, solder paste printer, pick & place machine, reflow oven and AOI.
- Print Feeder Allocation Sheets and prepare the component kit.
- Load components on to feeders - fit these on to the pick & place machine - audit the kit.
- De-kit the machine on completion of a job.
- Hand-place SMT components as required.
- Provide first-line SMT support and/or program adjustments using Standard Operating Procedures.
- Assist Production Engineering with second-line support.
- Conduct AOI and visual inspection to IPC610 standard, raising any quality issues with the Production Engineer, Production Manager and/or Quality Manager.
- Undertake rework activity as required.
- Complete scheduled Preventative Maintenance and cleaning.
- Document all work completed on the SMT process via shopfloor ERP system.
- Must be able to read and interpret SMT layout diagrams.
- In addition, the jobholder may have to perform other duties deemed necessary for the benefit of the company, as assigned by the Production Manager.
- Note - A new employee would not initially be expected to possess all the above attributes. However, they would be expected, with adequate training, to achieve most of them within a reasonable time scale.

**Skills and Experience (Core)**:

- Prior experience of working within a similar medium volume electronics manufacturing environment.
- Competence in dexterous hand assembly processes and soldering of electronic-based products, in-line with standard output rates.
- Skilled wirer.
- Good all-round knowledge of national standards for soldering, ideally IPC 610 Certified.
- Proven background in operating an SMT assembly line.
- Using Microsoft Word, Excel or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret written work instructions & drawings.
- Familiar with the use of basic test equipment such as digital multi-meters and benchtop PSU.
- Experience of packing products.

**Skills and Experience (Desirable)**:

- Running an Automatic SMT assembly line. Preferably (but not essential) with experience of ASM/DEK Horizon 03i solder paste printer, iPulse M2 mounting centre, Nutek linking conveyors, BTU Pyramax 98 reflow oven and Mirtec MV-3 desktop AOI.
- Experience in using a PC-based Engineering Resource Planning (ERP) stock system.
- Demonstrate skills in use of basic automatic test equipment (ATE).

**Working hours**:

- Dayshift operations.
- A standard working week is 37.5 hours with a standard working day of 8 hours Monday to Thursday and Friday 5.5 hours on Friday.
- However, working hours may change with reasonable notice to suit the needs of the business. All employees will be given reasonable notification of changes to shifts or working hours.
- Start time no earlier than 7:30am and finish time no later than 6pm. Lunch 0.5 hour.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £24,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
