Role: Backstage Crew
Responsible to: Backstage Crew Team Co-ordinator
Location: Regal Tenbury Auditorium, Studio and Foyer
Role purpose: Our Backstage Crew is key to making shows happen. They construct, paint and build sets, perform scene changes and move props during plays; rig and de-rig the Studio for performances, crew the ‘get-ins’ and ‘get-outs for live shows, move tiered staging and seating when required and assist with other stage-related tasks (see “Backstage Crew Guidance Notes” for a more detailed explanation of terms and tasks)
Main Tasks and duties: "Construct sets for main stage and Studio and assemble these when required
Paint sets as required by artistic director
Crew scene and prop changes for plays, etc
Crew ‘get ins’ and ‘get outs’ for live shows (comedians, bands, etc)
Rig and de-rig Studio
Assemble and dismantle tiered seating in Studio (including platforms)
Dismantle sets at the end of events and production runs
Move sets and props to and from containers
Assist with tidying containers and tool store room as required.
Assist with any auditorium seat removals"
Essential skills and qualities: "No formal qualifications are required, however successful applicants will either have demonstrable practical experience or a commitment to undertake relevant training deemed necessary by the Regal to carry out this role
Good communication skills
Able to work effectively as part of a team
Able to work accurately and consistently and to remain calm under pressure"

Capable of working at height (ladders, scaffolding)
Good general DIY skills: carpentry, painting & decorating, etc
Strong practical and mechanical skills (e.g. for assembling scenery)
Artistic painting flair for set painting
Experience or knowledge of general theatre practices and procedures"
Commitment: "Undertake any training deemed necessary by the Regal for this role
Be reliable and punctual for any agreed duty times
Always work safely, ensuring that all health and safety policies are followed
Attend at least six Backstage Crew volunteer sessions each Calendar year"
Induction: This will be completed by the Backstage Crew Team Co-ordinator
Support and training: Introduction to the Regal: people, events and processes, from the Backstage Crew TC and other experienced staff. Induction and shadowing. Face-to-face internal training and online courses. Areas covered include: fire safety, first aid, working from height, safe lifting and other areas as deemed necessary and appropriate for the role.
