We are looking to recruit two craftsperson roles - one in Land management and one in the Recreation team, both based out of Dalby Forest.

**Job description**:
**Embed a safety-first culture in our teams - look out and look after**

Ensure personal safety at all times by following job risk assessments, using lone working systesm and by carrying out PPE and safety checks, in compliance with policy and Health and Safety guidance. Reporting of incidents and near misses into accident reporting system.

**Key responsibilities for Operations Craftsperson (Land Management)**

Surveying - Undertake monitoring and data-gathering tasks such as tree safety inspections, hazards, barriers, fence line, boundary inspections and camera security data handling. Carry out tree density assessment surveys on replanted sites; vegetation and pest surveys. Assist Works Supervisor with ground preparation spacing checks and contractor planting checks.

Undertake timber volume plotting and monitoring work including roadside stock measurement, marking of constraint boundaries and forest health surveys as required. Assist Works Supervisor with stock taking, marking and tagging of trees for harvesting along with other harvesting operations and logistics work.

Logistics and Security - Carry out forest security measures as requested. Report/investigate fly-tipped waste and dispose of non-hazardous materials as directed, liaising as appropriate with Works Supervisor.

Contribute to the delivery of key programmes by providing a support service in transporting essential materials, consumables, plants etc. to work and District depot sites
Maintain vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment in accordance with manufactures instructions and best practice guidelines. Carry out or arrange to be carried out any repairs as necessary.

**Key responsibilities for Recreation Craftsperson**

Facility management - you will assist the team in maintaining facilities at a high quality visitor attraction at Dalby Forest and across other Forestry England sites in Yorkshire Forest District. Supporting work in Guisborough, Sneaton, Kilburn, Stainburn and Coatham.

Trail maintenance and inspections - assist the team in maintaining walking and mountain biking trails carrying out a range visual inspections of paths, structures or trees to maintain the site in a safe condition, ensuring that defects are properly recorded and rectified in a timely manner.

Events - you will assist the Recreation team in supporting events and permissions taking place (including motorsport, mass-participation events etc) across Yorkshire Forest District to ensure they are delivered safely minimising impact on operational workings of the forests where possible.

Vegetation control -** **Seasonal strimming and mowing of vegetation on recreation facilities, gateways and around forest furniture.

Customer Service and visitor welcome, engage with visitors and offer help and support on site. Answer general enquiries or pass to the correct member of staff to deal with.

**Person specification**:
**Essential**:

- Experience of practical work in the countryside and a general understanding of forestry, conservation and countryside related issues
- A familiarity of a variety of hand tools and an ability to demonstrate competence in their use.
- Full UK Driving Licence. The duties of this post require the applicant to have a full current driving licence that enables them to drive in the UK. However, the Forestry Commission is willing to consider any proposals put forward by applicants that would allow them to do the job by any other means.

**Desirable**:

- NPTC certification and experience or equivalent in at least one of the following, manual felling with chainsaw (201,202,203 or equivalent) clearing saw or related operations.
- Experience in recreation facility management
- Experience in public-facing role
- Experience of working on practical tasks with volunteers and teams.
