We are urgently looking for a **General Maintenance** person to work with our prestigious client in the City of London. This is a full time role for 4 months in the first instance but can become permanent for the right person.

**Purpose of Post**
- To be responsible for undertaking plumbing, painting, and carpentry related tasks. Carry out comprehensive repairs and maintenance, service to installations, equipment, machinery, ground maintenance and building services within the Market complex.

**Main Duties & Responsibilities**
- To utilise a wide range of plumbing, carpentry, welding, metalworking, painting and other craft skills in the repair, maintenance, and installation of a wide range of equipment, fixtures, and fittings to the required quality standard to ensure the continued efficient operation of the Market.
- To carry out full range of plumbingworks including installations in accordance with water bye laws and consideration to legionellosis prevention. This could include but is not limited to replacing water heaters, sinks, taps, thermostatic mixing valves and waste pipes, utilising soldering, and mechanical techniques and consideration should be given to quantity and quality of materials required.
- To carry out when requested, a comprehensive Legionellosis prevention programme, advise on its effectiveness and to record the results of tests and activities. To complete and sign documentation as evidence that prevention programme is in place and carried out in an effective manner
- To carry out wood and metal work as directed such as build and erect cupboards, shelving, benches, repair bollards, roller shutters and gates etc. To liaise with line managers regarding purchase to meet programmes of work.
- To carry out concrete repairs to floor slabs and roadway surfaces utilising proprietary specialised concrete repair compounds to maintain safety and remove hazards.
- To carry out drain, gutter, waste and soil pipe inspection, maintenance and inspection. To clear blocked toilets, gutters and drains to ensure the efficient and safe operation of Market.
- To carry out line marking to car parks, footpaths and designated walkways and other essential maintenance duties such as such as glazing, fence and roofing repairs to a required standard.
- To react promptly and effectively to emergency situations that arise from failures of building services, i.e. drainage system blockages, burst pipes, flooding, electrical failures.
- To recommend both verbally and in written report form, improvements to building services to reduce failures of installed services.
- To be able to identify electrical risks, isolate final circuits and work to an electrical permit to work and other safe systems of working.
- To carry out, in a competent manner, the inspection of, roof access equipment, ladders and other safety equipment to current guidelines to ensure the safety of all members of the maintenance team and other market users.
- Inspect in a competent manner the maintenance of vehicles and plant used at the market.
- To carry out tasks in the planned preventative maintenance schedule, to record findings, complete documentation and actively report failure, faults, and improvements.
- To carry out emergency pest control measures in the absence of the pest Control operative
- To undertake Risk Assessments
- To issue Permits to Work to contractors, monitor contractors to ensure compliance with health and safety codes of practice in conjunction with the permit to work system.
- To record works undertaken on job sheets, obtain materials from stock, record issues and complete stock requisitions.
- To survey works required, complete materials lists, estimate time allocation and provide line manager with information to produce estimates for works required
- Supply and install services for functions and events held within or around the market premises connected with the City of London.
- Attend regular meetings on work related topics.
- Liaise with other City of London departments, contractors, and insurance inspectors for joint work assignments.

**Professional Qualifications / Relevant Education & Training**
- Must hold or be studying towards a recognised plumbing, carpentry or electrical qualification and have relevant and proven experience of general maintenance including plumbing, painting, carpentry, and metalworks.
- Evidence of continuous learning regarding health and safety regulations in the use of power tools, safe system of works, work permits.
- Holds an IPAF license or be willing to obtain through training an IPAF license to use hydraulic working platforms (MEWP).
- Holds a fork-lift license or be willing to obtain through training a forklift license.

**Experience Required**
- Significant and demonstrable experience of general maintenance work.
