Cambian Dilston College consists of our main college building, four cottages, five apartments and a community house in a nearby town of Hexham making up our 9-acre rural campus located in Dilston, Northumberland.
**Curriculum Lead (sensory Specialist)**
**Purpose of role**:
To assist the Principal, Vice Principal, Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and therapy team in the assessment and support of young people attending college. On the basis of such assessments the Curriculum Lead, in consultation with the therapy team and SLT will devise therapeutic curriculum programmes for learners to maximise engagement and progression. They will develop a sensory based and therapy Intervention Curriculum which will be embedded across the college within the waking day and 24-hour curriculum. They will model outstanding teaching and learning through timetabled teaching sessions and sharing good practice amongst the staff teams. The post holder will be responsible for line managing a small group of teaching staff to support the embedding of the curriculum.
**Knowledge Required**:
Knowledge of how to present information effectively and appropriately.
Knowledge of establishing, implementing and evaluating specialist curriculum programmes across the post 16 education sector.
Knowledge of sensory strategies and other holistic interventions to maximise learning.
Knowledge of ASD, challenging behaviour and severe learning difficulties (as appropriate to the establishment)
Knowledge of Ofsted, SEND CoP, and Care Quality Commission (CQC) and inspection frameworks.
Knowledge of SEND code of Practice, EHCP process and basic funding requirements.
**Skills and abilities required**
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Ability to take responsibility/authority in challenging circumstances
Excellent communication skills
Ability to form and promote positive relationships with learners with SEN and ASD
Ability to remain calm under pressure and provocation
Ability to work productively and manage competing demands
Ability to demonstrate good literacy and report-writing skills
Ability and willingness to attend required training and learn from practice.
Excellent I.T. skills, for example, use of spreadsheets, word processing, presentation software, and management information systems.
Ability to work flexible hours in accordance with the needs of the post
Ability to participate in emergency out of hours on call rota.
**Qualifications Required**
A good understanding of Behaviour Management methods preferably at a trainer level but not essential, however must be prepared to undertake training in Safety Intervention (MAPA).
Teaching qualification (at least level 5 equivalent i.e. DTLLS, PGCE, PCET)
Specialist SEND qualification - i.e. Diploma in Higher Education and Training for SEND, Masters in Autism, MA in Special and Inclusive education
**Experience Required**
Recent and relevant experience of the education and care service delivery requirements of young people with SEND /ASD
Experience of teaching in a range of specialist education settings
Experience of working with learning support teams and wider support teams
Experience of managing safeguarding incidents in an education environment.
Experience of working with adults in an educational setting
Successful experience of working with people with severe learning difficulties, challenging behaviour or mental health issues, in education.
Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Working with external stakeholders
Experience of delivering training
Delivering change in an educational environment
Experience of collecting and analysing data, presenting in a format suitable for its audience (tutors, SLT, clinical team)
Experience of meeting targets and quality standards
