If so, we have an exciting opportunity to join a very friendly, supportive and forward-thinking team of over 40 Dietitians, Dietetic Assistant Practitioners and Dietetic Assistants based at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, part of Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust.
You will provide inpatient clinical dietetic care to complex, high priority patients on our fast paced, busy acute medical assessment unit (AMU) with the ability to develop in depth experience in a wide range of medical specialities and complex issues.
This role would suit a self-motivated enthusiastic dietitian who is keen to advance their career and works well with the wider MDT. You will provide complex dietetic care to high priority acute inpatients, allowing for prompt dietetic input and facilitating efficient patient flow through the hospital. You will also form close working relations with the specialist dietetic teams within the hospital and our community dietetic colleagues as you will be the first line contact for their patients coming through AMU.
You will offer support and supervision to the band 5 dietitians and help to develop their knowledge in acute nutrition support, along with being heavily involved in student training.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills, a practical, forward thinking approach to service development and evaluation and the ability to work as part of a large team.
This post requires a proactive approach where you contribute to innovation, service development and audit. You will be supported with your personal development goals and have regular clinical supervision and peer support. You will work closely day to day with a range of Medical and Surgical Multi-disciplinary Teams.
Good communication skills are essential and clinically, you will provide dietetic service to inpatients and outpatients.
Collect medical, social, biochemical and pharmacological information
Undertake nutritional and dietary assessments.
Devise and agree nutritional care plan through good communication skills, focussing on being patient centred at all times.
Work alongside other health care professionals on care plans.
Monitor progress.
Effective communication skills to provide nutrition and dietetic advice to individuals and groups; ensuring technical information is given in a way they can understand.
Maintain good clinical standards in record keeping and in written communication.
Use counselling skills to assess motivation and overcome barriers to change.
Liaise with caterers and other staff to ensure provision of suitable meals and snacks for patients.
Attend ward rounds/case conferences and ward meetings.
Undertake supervision of student dietitians.
Plan and prioritise own caseload.

Clinical
Provide dietetic service to in-patients and outpatients treated in the specialism.
For each patient, collect all relevant medical, social, biochemical and pharmacological information required to inform practice.
Undertake nutritional assessment using weight, height, mid-upper arm circumference and skin-fold measurements as required.
Undertake dietary assessment, estimating intake of macro and micronutrients as appropriate.
Using all information gathered devise and agree with patient and or carer a nutritional care plan.
Inform all relevant health care professionals of main aims and objectives of nutritional care plan by completing relevant documents or writing in patients case sheets.
Monitor progress on the nutritional care plan according to local standards, amending as necessary to ensure improvement in health is achieved.
Establish and maintain effective communication when giving nutrition and dietetic advice to individuals and in groups; to ensure technical information is given in a way they can understand.
