**Main purpose of the role**

The role of Assistant Laboratory Scientist is focused on supporting the department in striving for customer service excellence in internal and external activities.

They should provide support the team in ensuring that all initiatives are fully implemented and that role model/ambassador behaviour, values and beliefs are adopted across the department.

An Assistant Laboratory Scientist should be able to work well with mínimal supervision, whilst also working effectively as a key team member to maximise the overall service delivered. A flexible ‘can do’ approach is essential for this role.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Preparation of Cytology smears and fluids for analysis.
- Perform microtomy, staining and special staining techniques for Histological evaluation.
- Use of the Matrix LIMS system and data entry.
- Carryout laboratory tests and review results based on appropriate experience level.
- Maintenance and correct use of laboratory Equipment.
- Preparation of reagents/media
- General laboratory housekeeping.
- Reception and ordering of stock and reagents.
- Adherence to written Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Controls, and Health & Safety rules

- Excellent attention to detail.
- GCSE’s level or above
- Demonstrates a good understanding of the important elements of laboratory diagnostic testing.
