Support Worker - Whitby - £10.70 per hour plus weekend enhancement

Who we are:
The Wilf Ward Family Trust is a proud, Yorkshire based charity, established in 1986 to support people with learning disabilities to live outstanding lives.

Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for support workers who want to work with amazing individuals alongside inspirational colleagues and for an organisation that truly cares. We currently have vacancies in Stakesby Road, Whitby, for currently three individuals living in a quaint bungalow set in a tranquil area of Whitby, with its own large sensory garden and has good access to all local areas and amenities. We support three unique individuals with profound and multiple learning disabilities to live full and active lives.

No experience or qualifications are needed because we will provide you with all of that, we just need you to be able to work as part of a great team, have great values and care about what you do. All training will be provided.

Individuals we support choose from a wide variety of activities, which as a support worker you will be supporting the individual to undertake these activities, some of which include, but are not limited to the following:

- Supporting individuals to bake and cook, with an understanding of their abilities. Some tasks will involve, adding their own fresh ingredients that they have grown within their garden, using blenders and mixers that have been adapted for their needs.
- All three of the individuals supported love to go shopping for food and clothes. They enjoy looking at items and choosing what they buy, including paying for their items. They use their skills by paying for items and counting money at the till.
- Beach days: Whitby beach is just a short walk away from the bungalow where the individuals love to have strolls along the promenade and they enjoy an ice cream
- Forest picnics: individuals love a drive out to Dalby Forest where they can enjoy a picnic and a walk through the peaceful countryside.
- Swimming: individuals love to go to public pools and hydrotherapy pools where they can get regular exercise
- Concerts: individuals love music and enjoy going to local concerts like Abba, and George Ezra.

We pride ourselves in person centred care, each individual is always at the centre of everything they choose and wish to do. We have regular social gatherings with individuals’ families, which usually involves food and everyone having fun and games. Individuals usually know what they like to do, and Colleagues are encouraged to think outside of the box and think that nothing is impossible and to give it a try, if that is what the individual chooses to do.
