Managerial duties You will be expected to work with local managers and professional colleagues in the efficient running of services, providing both histological and cytopatholgy reporting services and the undertaking of post mortems. The appointee will also work closely with other service providers such as the Biomedical Scientists and Associated practitioners in the day to day provision of an efficient and effective Cellular Pathology service in Bolton NHS Foundation Trust. The employee will assist with the responsibility for use and security of, the Trusts assets, including their own use, and ensuring correct use by others. There are a number of regular departmental meetings that oversee the various aspects of laboratory which the consultants attend, including the Senior Staff Meeting.

The appointee will take an active role in matters of Clinical Governance including audit and training that relate to the laboratory and clinical activities of the Cellular Pathology department. There is an active audit department in the Hospital with regular intra-departmental meetings at which there is frequently an input from Laboratory Medicine. The appointee will be expected to participate in clinical audit and in relevant national and regional external quality assurance schemes. At present, these include the regional histopathology EQA scheme, regional non-gynaecological EQA scheme, national breast screening EQA and the national bowel cancer screening EQA.

The consultant histopathologist will be expected to provide cross-cover for each other in day to day duties. The appointee will undertake educational and other activities as required by the department. This includes participation in the preparation and writing policies and SOPs; collecting and analysing audit and surveillance data, responses to various documents, writing educational power point presentations, writing minutes of meetings. The appointee will have an involvement in quality assurance performance within the department, including taking part in all relevant national external quality assurance (NEQAS) programmes.

Involvement in achieving and maintaining full accreditation with United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS), or an equivalent agency. The appointee will be involved in teaching and training a wide range of health care workers, in service development activities and in business planning, including the assessment and introduction of new methods and forward planning for staff and equipment requirements. They are required to ensure that Health and Safety legislation is complied with at all times, including COSHH, Workplace Risk Assessment and Control of Infection.

Working within the trust you may gain knowledge of confidential matters which may include personal and medical information about patients and staff. Such information must be considered strictly confidential and must not be discussed or disclosed.

Failure to observe this confidentiality could lead to disciplinary action being taken against you. Data Quality All employees are reminded about the importance of Data Quality and staff should make themselves aware of both departmental and corporate objectives for Data Quality. Data Quality forms part of the appraisal and objective setting process for staff responsible for data entry and data production; staff should ensure that they adhere to policies and procedures at all times. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action being taken.

Employees are responsible for ensuring that data is accurate for national reporting bodies such as NHSE/I (PQAD), PHE (HCAI)(CTAD) and internal data for Clinicians, service users and others.
