**JOB TITLE: Carer**

**Brief** **Description**

This position consists of one carer for a 15-year-old autistic young man with associated learning difficulties. He is pre-verbal and utilises an ACC devise for all communication. You will be required to assist him with but not limited to communication, self-help, functional skills, Occupational therapy for self-regulation and personal care.

**Profile of Carer**
- You will be contracted to work either 7 and half hours per week over 2 weekday evenings.
- You will be working as part of a team and should be able flexible to cover when the other support worker takes holiday. This would mean that when you cover holidays, you will be working up of 15 hours a week

**Type of Contracts**
- This is a permanent position.

**Job Type**:

- Part-time

**Hours / Times of Work**:

- Days of work: Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
- You will be required to work 3 and 45 minutes hour shifts on each day you work. 5:15-9pm

**Rates of Pay and other benefits**
- £12 an hour.
- Paid holidays and statutory sick pay.
- Experience of working with young people with learning difficulties and/or autism is desirable but not essential.
- Training will be provided.

**Date of Start**
- Start immediate.
- You will start as soon as you DBS is processed

**Tasks**
- To follow communication programme in supporting my son to communicate in all aspects using his ACC devise.
- Be able to enforce and be consistent with rules of behaviour, procedures and protocols to maintain consistent progress in his well-being.
- You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team with tutors and family carers. As such, you should be able to work as part of a team.
- Carers must be able to take direction from myself (mother).
- To assist my son in acquiring and maintaining self-help and independence skills such as cooking for his own simple meals.
- To support my son to increase independence and communication.
- You will also be required to engage with him in games and other activities.
- Assist my son with personal care where necessary.
- He requires encouragement for independent communication and social interaction.
- He has no awareness of danger, and you are required to keep him safe whenever you are with him.
- Training in all of the above will be provided.
- Be flexible to work at my son’s pace.

**Qualifications and requirements**
- NVQ level or equivalent or above
- Ability to work with an individual with autism.
- Ability to be self-directed to independently be able to plan activities in the time you are with him.
- Ability to take direction.
- Ability to give full attention to what other people are saying.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- You will need a DBS check which will be paid for.
