**Principal Engineer - Competitive Salary

**Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities of a Principal Engineer include, but are not limited to:

- Civil & Structural Engineering design within the rail environment
- Perform the role of CRE-D for Network Rail Projects
- Preparation of technical bid documents and resource estimates
- Drafting tender and contract documents
- Acting with limited delegated powers as Engineer’s Representative/Contract Administrator in construction contracts
- Structures information to ensure that the message is fully understood (e.g., what is required, how and when)
- Questions others constructively to clarify own understanding where necessary
- Ensures the team are kept informed on project and team issues on an on-going basis
- Presents technical concepts clearly in a user-friendly way (e.g., to team or client contact)
- Keeps project team and Project Director informed on an on-going basis
- Provides help and support to the team in the achievement of project deadlines
- Liaises with the project team and project director in the achievement of the project
- Projects confidence both within and external to the organisation -Projects personal credibility technically and as a Project Leader
- Demonstrates energy and enthusiasm to see goals through to completion (both client and internal to RWC)
- Exercises judgement in leading projects (e.g., in estimating the time taken for project activities to support effective resourcing decisions)
- Takes resourcing decisions (e.g., on who, what, when)
- Shows judgment in recognising the limitations of own technical knowledge and experience
- Shows judgment in communicating adequate warnings if hours allocated are to be exceeded
- Understands the impact of suggestions or decisions on the project
- Supervises the project on a day-today basis (oversees the project outputs, written or drawn)
- Supervises the technical standards on the project
- Helps and encourages others to achieve their work
- Encourages others to take responsibility for their work area
- Manages the project team to work collaboratively in the achievement of the project
- Inputs own knowledge and experience in the preparation of viable bids by others
- Takes account of the available resource pool in leadership of projects
- Takes a commercial approach to projects, and seeks improved approaches to produce increased profit on the project
- Works to identify personal objectives that fit and support the Business Plan objectives

- Experience of implementation and management of CDM Regulations
- Working knowledge of conditions of engagement and warranties that impact on the business
- Experience in areas outside own specialist area
- Experience of preparing costs estimates and considering alternatives/options
- Experience of managing programme and delivery on a project
- Desire to drive projects forward and take the initiative where necessary
