A toolmaker is responsible for making/modifying precision items such as jigs & fixtures which are then used in the manufacturing process to make high value products. You would also be modifying components, ancillaries & fixings to support the need of the company as well as mentoring junior level staff.
**The Role**:

- Manufacture new product tooling and fixtures through the prototype phase to production.
- Manufacture/modify components to support engineering changes.
- Setup and use a range of manual machine tools such as Mills (vertical and horizontal) and lathes.
- Setup and use grinding machines for surface and cylindrical (internal and external) grinding.
- Be able program, set & Run CNC Machines like Hurco, Hitachi Seiki, Matsuura & DMG.
- Be able to use measuring equipment to ensure component/fixture compliance.
- Assess jobs to provide approximate lead time and maintain job history data.
- Train members of staff to setup and maintain machinery to a competent level.
- Mentor and instruct Juniors & apprentices to perform manufacturing techniques.
- Be committed to continuous improvement and suggest improvements regarding methods, processes, and tooling. Fulfil any other reasonable requirement consistent with departmental objectives.
- Consider the health and safety, environmental and energy impact of all activities.
- Support the Company's compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018, following policy and best practice.
- Ability to read, interpret and communicate technical information.
- Ability to read and understand multiple machine languages such as Ultimax, Heidenhain & Fanuc
- Ability to problem solve.
- Demonstrate a thorough working knowledge of:

- Work-holding methods.
- Tool selection criteria.
- Cutting tool parameters.
- Manual machining techniques.
- Shop floor computer systems & inspection techniques.
- Knowledge of tool measuring equipment such as Zoller
- Numerical and computer skills.
- Effective communicator both verbal and written.
- Automotive engineering experience/background.
