Research Impact Officer

**Job purpose**
The purpose of this post is to work closely with researchers to help identify, plan, generate and evidence research impact, supporting them to use their research to make a difference to people and society.
The role holder will work closely with the College Impact Manager and other colleagues to support the development of the College’s impact portfolio, develop impact narratives, and to ensure the College is well placed to be able to present robust examples of impact achieved from the research.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**-2. Advising academic colleagues on pathways to impact, with a view to maximising both impactful outcomes and future availability of appropriate evidence
3. Identifying and proposing support/funding to strengthen and develop cases of impact in the College, in collaboration with the College Impact Manager, KE and Innovation manager and other colleagues
4. Responsible for management of a portfolio of impact narratives, with regular reporting to the College Impact Manager, Head of Research Operations and Strategy and other colleagues as appropriate
5. Effectively managing information relating to impact narratives and evidence, as well as impact support including funding
6. Providing up-to-date knowledge and expertise in impact practice deriving, for example, from past REF guidance, high-scoring REF Impact Case Studies, and publications on REF/impact
7. Maintaining effective working relationships with other colleagues working on Impact, including the College Impact Manager, KE Associates, College KE and Innovation Manager, R&I Impact team, and College Research Support Office
8. Delivering support, including one-to-one advice and training/workshops, to support colleagues to generate impact from their work and observe impact best practice, e.g. in evidence collection
9. Responsible for supporting colleagues to identify, sustain and properly record impact, and contributing to the embedding of a positive impact culture more deeply within the College
10. Preparing submissions for interim assessments of College REF-readiness, adhering to tight deadlines and liaising with the College Impact Manager, Impact Review Panel, and academic colleagues
11. Supporting our effective implementation of University and College policies pertaining to impact

**Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience**

**Knowledge/Qualifications**

**Essential**
A1 Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9 (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent professional experience, in an area relevant to the College of Arts
A2 Theoretical and practical knowledge of research impact support
A3 Familiarity with Arts and Humanities research
A4 Knowledge and awareness of impact acceleration funding

**Desirable**
B1 Knowledge and understanding of the UK-wide Research Excellence Framework (REF)
B2 Familiarity with the Higher Education research environment

**Essential**
C1 Excellent and confident inter-personal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with staff at all levels of seniority
C2 Excellent organisation, coordination and time management skills with proven ability to prioritise workloads, and to plan and implement activities to meet tight deadlines with mínimal supervision
C3 Ability to motivate colleagues to deliver against short and long-term impact goals
C4 Excellent writing and narrative skills, including for non-specialist audiences
C6 Proven attention to detail and accuracy
C7 Able to organise and manage work in several on-going workstreams
C8 Effective communication and presentation skills for a wide range of audiences including non-specialists
C9 A commitment to professional development and continuous updating of knowledge and skills
C10 Excellent IT Skills, particularly Word, web, databases and spreadsheets.
C11 Ability to work independently and as part of a team

**Experience**

**Essential**
E1 Practical experience in a related role(s)
E2 Experience of providing effective one-to-one support and guidance in a research support or consultancy environment
E3 Experience of project work, contributing to planning and monitoring progress
E4 Experience of producing comprehensive plans and working with colleagues to ensure efficient implementation
E5 Proven experience in collating, integrating, manipulating, analysing, and presenting data from various sources
E6 Experience of delivering training and/or teaching effectively

**Desirable**
F1 Experience of writing and development of Arts and Humanities impact narratives
F3 Experience of contributing significantly to the work of teams of people - including colleagues across a department and organisation - to achieve short and long-term strategic goals
