**Your new role**

National Highways currently has an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Planner to join the Smart Motorways Alliance team in in our Major Projects directorate.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the existing planning team in delivering key deliverables and objectives to the programme, whilst gaining knowledge and experience in planning systems and techniques. The role is to support the overall improvement of scheme forecasting, aid the reporting of progress and improve measurement techniques.

The role holder will be able to communicate effectively with project teams and senior management alike, both within National Highways and externally through our key stakeholders.

National Highways operates hybrid working with a mix of home and office working expected. This role will be based on our Birmingham office.

**What you’ll be leading on**
- Provide general support to the Planning and PMO teams as required, ensuring timely completion of tasks to the required standards.
- Gaining excellent working knowledge, operation and utilisation of established planning software (Primavera P6) and other systems used within National Highways. Develop a practical understanding of NEC contracts, and any other key documents used in planning and project controls that may be in use.
- Contribute and support the development and implementation of new processes, striving for continuous improvement and increasing efficiency.
- Contribute and support the measurement of project schedule variance due to change events and highlight any issues that warrant escalation.
- Produce management information reports, presentations and other documents, to support others in decision making and delivery of business objectives.
- Communicate and engage with the wider programme planning community to ensure the monthly reporting cycle is completed on time.

**To be successful you’ll need**:

- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, and good interpersonal skills.
- Strong ICT skills including experience of working with Microsoft office packages and experience of planning software packages beneficial.
- Experience of project planning or willingness to undertake independent learning to develop knowledge.
- Evidence of managing data and reporting
- Construction background or Contract administration knowledge (desirable).
