1. Manage the reception desk and ‘front-of-house’, greeting patients and visitors keeping them regularly informed of any delay.
2. Answer all non-clinical enquires either face to face or by telephone which may be of a sensitive nature in a professional, empathetic, polite and courteous manner.
3. Take and relay accurate messages for clinical staff and prioritise information as required.
5. Liaise with main ward clerk.
6. Deal with queries and challenging patients at reception knowing when to escalate to senior staff or when to request assistance.
7. To undertake clerical duties as directed by clinical staff on duty or the manager.
8. Report any problems to the manager/ Nurse-in-charge as appropriate.
9. Update Patient Centre with patients attendance, referral and demographic information including GP information); compile notes/arrange for existing notes to be located/ identified and delivered.
10. Collect and deliver post for both internal and external mail.
11. Collect and deliver notes, x-ray reports, pathology specimens to other departments within the hospital under the direction of clinical staff.
12. Undertaking photocopying activities and the distribution of copies as required.
13. Undertake daily and monthly filing. Arrange transfer of files to Medical Records.
14. Arrange follow-up appointments and transport (where appropriate) as directed by clinical staff.
15. Ensure adequate stationery supplies are available and re-stock as necessary, informing the Nurse-in-charge of supply issues.
