Hounslow Council is an outstanding council serving an outstanding borough. With brilliant, visionary leadership, a dynamic Cabinet and a can-do culture, we’ve built strong partnerships across the borough which have transformed how we serve one of London’s most diverse boroughs. Hounslow is the world in one place, full of potential, but a borough hit hard - socially and economically - by Covid-19. We have stepped up for our residents and businesses like never before.

**About The Role**

Would you like to join The London Borough of Hounslow’s Governor Services team?

Would you like to make a difference to outcomes for children in Hounslow and neighbouring boroughs?

Would you like flexibility in your working hours and the opportunity to work from home?

As part of our offer to schools we are recruiting keen, skilled individuals to provide professional clerking services to school governing boards. The clerk provides the governors with record keeping, meeting planning, minute taking and advice on procedure and legal matters; and is a very interesting and rewarding role.

The posts are home based and term time, with the requirement to attend meetings in school some evenings and occasionally in the morning. Experience of clerking in a school, is desirable but not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided.

**Key Responsibilities**:
1.Administrative and organisational support to the board

2.Provision of guidance to ensure that the board works in compliance with the appropriate legal and regulatory framework, and understands the potential consequences for non-compliance.

3.Advice on procedural matters relating to the operation of the board.

4.Provision of accurate minutes to reflect the discussion and decisions taken by the board.

**Your Skills**:
1.You will have excellent organisational skills with a knowledge of minute taking and record keeping.

2.You will be highly organised, confidentially aware and able to keep to deadlines.

3.You will be an effective communicator with strong literacy, numeracy and IT skills.

4.You will have knowledge and experience of governance procedures and legislative requirements or the willingness to attend training and the aptitude to develop this.

**Professional Qualifications**:
1.Degree level or equivalent and/or relevant experience

2.Enhanced DBS check is required

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements.
