Between 10-25hrs with flexible additional hours. Flexibility in your availability is essential.

You may also be asked to provide respite care including overnight care.

There will be times when you are required to work additional hours to assist your employer during a seizure and supporting her through her recovery and cover holiday & sickness for other employees where possible.

You are entitled to 5.6 weeks (pro rata) holidays per year, 3 of which will be fixed by your employer and their spouse, you will be given sufficient notice of these holidays but will generally (but not always) be, Christmas, February and 1 week in summer. The balance of 2.6 weeks are flexible.

PA’s will not be expected to work 7 days continuously unless providing holiday cover or there are special circumstances requiring continuity of services when there is a need for sustained support, compensatory unpaid rest will be provided in lieu of these exceptional situations.

**Rate of pay**:
£11.60 per hour start with raise to £12.00 post probation period

**Purpose of the job**

We are looking for a Personal Care Assistant (PA) to provide support with all aspects of healthcare, daily living tasks, support with family/household duties and facilitate social activities.

The employer is a parent who has epileptic and non-epileptic seizures which affect her whole body and can include temporary paralysis. She needs supervision at all times ensuring her safety and providing assistance with all daily activities as she is unaware when the seizures will occur. The employer also suffers with chronic fatigue and chronic pain.

There are periods when the employer is unable to communicate during and post seizure. They are a part time wheelchair user.

The employer is a bright and cheerful person and enjoys the company of others.

The PA will be required to deliver support to a high standard under the direction of and in collaboration with the employer and their spouse.

Experience in healthcare is preferred but not essential as all training will be provided.

The applicant should be trustworthy, honest, punctual, non-judgemental and reliable. Personality, common sense and an ability to work flexibly on your own initiatives within a lively family home are the qualities most needed. They should understand equality and diversity, be adaptable in their responsibilities and comfortable working alone as well as with the family.

**Must have a full clean driving licence and a car that can be used for business use.**

**A training programme will be developed for the successful applicants and a profile of care support will be provided. The successful applicant will initially shadow another PA until they fully understand the role and the family are confident in your ability.**

**Please note that a large part of the role is to assist the employer with domestic duties and family duties including assisting with 3 children who are 4, 14 & 17, the eldest having high functioning autism.**

**The needs of your employer will always be the priority of the post.**

**Key Tasks**

- To support your employer in all aspects of their everyday life
- To ensure your employer’s well-being, safety, privacy and dignity is maintained at all times
- To act as their advocate during and post seizure
- To undertake other tasks relating to the care and welfare of your employer as necessary and appropriate, this includes supporting with domestic tasks around the home
- You will support your employer to enjoy and participate fully in family life, taking your lead from your employer, and their spouse
- You will support your employer with mental health management
- You will support your employer outside of the home, encouraging them to leave the house when able and engage socially.
- To undergo training and instruction as appropriate and as agreed with employer & spouse
- Follow guidelines that are in place and those detailed within the profile of care
- To operate an agreed system of regular feedback and communication with employer and spouse
- Maintain daily record of activities and hours worked
- Be sensitive to the fact that your employer has young children and an autistic teenager living in the same house
- Respect the employer and family’s need for privacy
