**The role will include work in the following**:

- Acid and Metalliferous Drainage (AMD)/ Environmental Geochemistry Risk Assessments
- Development of operational waste management plans and waste placement concepts
- Laboratory test work program design and management
- Detailed analysis and interpretation of geochemical and geological data
- Mine Closure/Rehabilitation Plan development
- Predictive modelling of water quality from mine waste storage facilities
- Review of geochemical drill hole assay databases, block models and waste schedules
- Mine waste facility cover system design
- Critical review of data from mining operations to assess requirements for AMD management practices
- Leading, planning and managing studies and site investigations related to AMD/ Environmental Geochemistry risk and management.
- Initiating and managing R&D projects related to mine waste management
- Preparation of scientific papers and conference presentations
- Directing the work of contractors and consultants

**About you**

This position is open to those with post graduate industry experience, competence and initiative are the key qualities for this role. You will have at least a BSc in a geoscience related discipline and a minimum of 5 years post graduate technical experience preferably within the mining industry. Relevant technical experience includes environmental geochemistry, waste management, mine closure planning, or that gained within a relevant operational role such as work in mine geology or mine environment teams. Experience in project management is desirable. You will have:

- Experience in geochemistry, mineral processing, and geology within a mining environment
- Experience of working on international projects
- Experience in the development of mine waste characterisation studies, waste management plans, and the design of waste storage facilities
- Experience in the analysis and interpretation of geochemical laboratory data
- High level of numerical and statistical analysis and advanced excel skills
- Ability to work with large data sets and use of data analysis tools such as IOGAS.
- A strong grasp of technical problem solving, with the ability to succinctly frame the work required to appropriately solve problems. Ability to develop solutions that account for uncertainty and risk.
- High level of report writing skills and proposal development skills
- Ability to work independently and with initiative
- High level of business acumen and the ability to take part in business development
- Strong communication skills; formal and informal, verbal and written.
- The ability to influence stakeholders by articulating scientific and technical content in an engaging manner
- Ability to identify and understand relevant health, safety, environment, and community risks in the work you perform and the plans you prepare.
