**STATISTICAL METHODOLOGIST**

**The role**

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed person to join us to provide expertise and advice on areas of statistical methodology. You will strengthen our ability to understand complex methods, to be able to ask the right questions about methods used to produce official statistics and to have an authoritative voice on topics that cut across the whole statistical system. All of this will strengthen our capability and credibility as a regulator, working to support public confidence in statistics.

**Future areas of focus could include**:

- Critique of complex methodologies, such as those for cancer incidence, survival, and prevalence statistics.
- Getting to grips with cutting-edge methodologies and looking to international examples.
- Cross-domain methods topics, such as the rapid move to online surveys during the pandemic, or further work on communicating uncertainty.
- A range of regulatory work across different topic areas - reviewing how official statistics measure up against the standards in the Code of Practice for Statistics.

This work will frequently be undertaken in situations where there is incomplete information and sound judgements are required, supported by a wider understanding of the context within which statistics are produced and used. While this role will focus on statistical methods and quality considerations of the Code, you will gain a broader understanding of the standards set for published official statistics across all three pillars of the Code: Trustworthiness, Quality and Value.

**Key** **responsibilities**
- **Communicate findings**, including preparing briefings, writing reports, and making presentations for a range of audiences, including senior leadership team.
- **Establish and maintain effective relationships** with methodological experts in organisations producing statistics.
- **Provide input on strategic initiatives**, corporate projects, and team events to drive innovation within the team.
- **Develop your own methodological expertise** to better support our work. This could include attending training, seminars and conferences.
- **Develop training and or supporting materials for colleagues**, to improve their capability to critically evaluate statistical methods.
