**Job overview**:
The work involves preparation, handling and serving of foods across all areas of the Catering department and associated hospital sites. The post holder will require maintaining good food hygiene standards for patients, staff and visitors to the Trust in accordance with individual sites processes.

Good housekeeping and cleaning practices are maintained to a professional standard promoting a professional image to patients and visitors promoting the Trust vision and values.

Use of industrial and light equipment and machinery is required within ward services, retail, stores and central production units.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:

- Ensure codes of practice for HACCP and food safety are followed as per site training
- Temperatures of cooked foods is recorded, along with chilled and frozen storage using the designated HACCP sheets
- Supplier deliveries are checked against temperature and quality. Failures reported to Supervisors and Managers for rejection
- Handling cleaning chemicals in accordance with COSHH and training provided
- Check dates and rotation of food accordingly within the working area
- Maintain excellent cleaning standards within the working area following cleaning schedules supplied
- Record appropriate food waste and report high levels of waste to supervisors
- Use generic IT software for stock recording and printing (as per individual training)
- Complete basic IT admin duties using Menu-Mark System for Menu Card collation (as per individual training)
- Identify and report faults as required to department supervisors or leads
- Maintain excellent personal hygiene and uniform standards as per site
- Uniform is correctly used and issued for chilled and frozen environments
- Work with industrial equipment within hot and cold environments
- Work with industrial equipment within industrial kitchen environments
- Maintain security of Trust property

**Person specification**:
**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- GCSE Equivalent in English and Maths
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate or willingness to undertake in the induction period

**Desirable**:

- Relevant Catering qualifications
- Higher Catering Education
- Other Education

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Health and Safety or willingness to undertake in induction period
- Food Hygiene Regulations or willingness to undertake in induction period
- Willingness to undertake specific competencies to meet the full requirements of the role

**Desirable**:

- Previous Catering Work Experience
- Previous Hospital or Care Experience
- Catering related knowledge
- Allergy Regulations

**Additional Criteria**:
**Essential**:

- Literate with basic I.T skills
- Read and understand written documentation
- Verbally communicate with people
- Presentable
- Work in large teams
- Able to work in hot and cold environments
- Time keeping

**Desirable**:

- Driving Licence
