**Job description**:
Our transport public bodies deliver billions of pounds of public service and investment every year. The Shareholding, Appointments, and Inquiry Response Directorate (SAI) was established in 2021 to ensure that the Department’s public bodies are capable and effective organisations to deliver this ask.

The Shareholder & Governance Advisor will be part of a team within SAI that advises on shareholding matters for some of most important Government-owned companies, including: Network Rail, National Highways, HS2 Ltd, London and Continental Railways (LCR) and Crossrail International Ltd.

The Directorate advises and acts on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport in holding the Boards of his Companies to account and for ensuring they deliver high performance on behalf of the travelling public, tax payers and the wider community.

- Responsibilities may include but are not limited to _
- Providing quality advice and submissions to the Secretary of State, Permanent Secretary and Director Generals on shareholding issues
- Provide intelligence and advice to spot risks, promote good governance, provide assurance, offer financial stewardship and protect the interests of the Secretary of State (and taxpayers).
- Providing support in progressing governance priorities, including Annual Report Accounts, Corporate Plans and Framework Documents.

**About you**

To be successful in this role, you will need to be someone who has superb interpersonal skills and can communicate effectively with others.

You are someone who can manage conflicting priorities, whilst being able to change priorities to meet demands of the business.

You can collaborate with confidence, being able to build and maintain strong working relationships with others.

**Additional information**

A minimum of 40% of your working time should be spent at your principal workplace, although requirements to attend other locations for official business, or carry out detached duty in another DfT workplace, will also count towards this level of attendance.

There will be some occasions where you will be required to attend meetings to other DfT locations, this may occur 1-2 times a month and may include overnight stays.
