Berkeley, United Kingdom Dr Jenner's House and Garden Full time

Visitor Welcome Supervisor

**Reports to**: The General Manager

**Place of work**: Dr Jenner’s House, Museum and Garden

Church Lane

Berkeley

GL13 9BN

**Contract**: 2 years, part-time

**Hours**: average 21 hours per week (flexible)
14 days annual leave (25 days pro rata) + public holidays

**Salary**: £11.50 per hour

**Dr Jenner’s House and Garden**

Dr Jenner’s house, The Chantry, is a unique part of the world’s heritage and the birthplace of vaccination. It is here that Dr Edward Jenner lived and worked as a country doctor and scientist and developed the world’s first vaccine, starting a revolution in the way we think about protecting ourselves and others.

The museum tells Edward Jenner’s story and celebrates the legacy of his work across the world today, including the elimination of smallpox. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic we were welcoming 7,000 visitors in person each year, and we have ambitions to grow and develop our work. Our small staff team work alongside around 30 volunteers.

As an independent charity, The Jenner Trust preserves Edward Jenner’s home for the world as a base from which we celebrate his ongoing legacy and encourage others to follow in his footsteps.

We do this by:

- Fostering curiosity and experimentation.
- Enabling conversations which can change the world.
- Celebrating vaccination from the place where it began.
- Inspiring current and future scientists.
- Ensuring Edward Jenner’s story is told beyond the walls of the building.

Inspired by Edward Jenner’s own values, we are:

- Curious - we love to question the world around us.
- Collaborative - we work with others to do more than we could achieve alone.
- Informed - everything we do is based on rigorous research.
- Inclusive - our story is for everyone.
- Determined - we keep going in the face of adversity.

The museum is currently open from April to September, Wednesday to Sunday, with occasional seasonal events and group bookings throughout the closed season. It consists of a 1 acre site containing the Grade II listed Chantry and Temple of Vaccinia as well as the Cyder House.

**Where We Are**

Dr Jenner’s House is in the centre of the historic market town of Berkeley, about halfway between Bristol and Gloucester with easy access from Junctions 13/14 of the

M5. The nearest railway station is Cam and Dursley.

**Visitor Welcome Supervisor**

The Visitor Welcome Supervisor will be responsible for the day-to-day delivery of customer-facing operations at Dr Jenner’s House, championing the visitor experience and supporting and coaching our team of Welcome Volunteers to ensure that high standards of customer service are maintained. The role will also include involvement with event planning in collaboration with our Education Officer and General Manager.
There will be an expectation for more hours to be taken during the open season April to September, Sunday to Wednesday. Includes Sunday working in open season.

This is an exciting time to join the team at Dr Jenner’s House and Garden as we have ambitions to re-grow the museum’s visitor numbers after some challenging years through Covid. We aim to increase academic visits and re-invigorate our programme of events and activities.
