Main Aims of the Job
To provide a high standard of service user care in the home during shift and undertake certain domestic duties which can be performed during day time hours
To provide a safe and caring environment that promotes and underpins the service users physical, emotional and psychological well-being

Key responsibilities (but not limited to)
Ensure the highest possible levels of care are maintained by supporting/assisting service users, when required, with washing, toileting, dressing, undressing and all other aspects of daily living
Assist service users in respect of their care needs (e.g physical, emotional and spiritual) Provide attention when needed, whilst ensuring service users retain their comfort and dignity
Pay particular attention to assisting service users who have limited mobility, or physical/learning difficulties, making the best use of aids provided
Closely monitor service users who may be confused and/or who have behavioural problems
To complete ABC Charts correctly and in as much detail as possible
Assist in the promotion of continence, ensuring toileting facilities are offered a minimum of 2 hourly
Assist in the delivery of care for service users who are dying or who have a progressive illness. Assist with last offices
Observe care planning needs for service users and complete daily records at POINT OF CARE using the CMS system, as instructed and in line with the homes policies and procedures, updating care plans where necessary
Assist in the framework of social activities by interacting with the service users and helping them continue with hobbies and activities within the home
Answer call bells, giving assistance where required
Answer door and telephone appropriately. Respond accordingly, and pass on messages promptly
Under the supervision and guidance of management, senior staff, report on the well-being of service users
Carry out regular checks on service users at minimum of 2 hourly intervals to promote safety
Make visitors feel welcome
Make and change beds bed if soiled, ensuring that rooms are clean and tidy, and commodes are empty, toilets flushed
Clean and maintain equipment used by service users e.g. wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles, dentures, etc.
To store away deliveries to ensure fire exits are kept clear
To assist with medication change over where possible to minimise the risk of errors
Ensure the home is kept clean and tidy - cleaning away personal belongings of service user (creams, etc)
If applicable, care for a service users’ clothes and ensure items are named
Ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with home policies and procedures
Assist the services users during meal times (be aware of swallowing difficulties, dietary requirements etc) Assist with serving of food and drinks when required
To clear medication pots
Practice maximum integrity in all dealings with service users’ personal affairs (e.g. emptying catheter bags in bedrooms or toilets, not in the lounge) to promote privacy and respect and in line with infection control
All staff members to be aware and adhere to all COVID regulations at all times.
To report any grievances with management
To ensure all visits from visiting professionals are documented on the Ablyss system
To update relatives in the absence of Manager and Floor Manager of any changes in circumstances

General
To attend and participate in staff meetings and attend all mandatory training when required
To attend supervision and appraisals ensuring that you have prepared for these when required
To respect service user’s beliefs and rights
To attend any other training when a need is Identified
To communicate effectively with other staff, relatives and visitors including professional agencies regarding service users
Respond accordingly to make visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments/assistance when required
To report any faults/defects in the Home to the appropriate person
To be fully aware of the fire policy and the awareness of food hygiene regulations
To ensure you are familiar with all current policies and procedures and understand your duty to comply and implement them when necessary
To wear uniform provided and flat sensible shoes at all times
Ensure that you do not use a mobile phone while on duty
To ensure that all information of a confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties
To keep all records of cleaning work completed after each shift in the appropriate book
Understand your responsibility to whistle blow if you witnessed bad practice or harm to a service user within the home
Ensure special dietary requirements are met (liquidised, soft, diabetic, lactose intolerant, allergies, etc)
To promote and ensure the good reputation of the home at all times
