Job Description

The role

Fugro are now seeking a GeoTechnician to join the Land Site Characterisation team based from the Wallingford, Oxfordshire office, although up to approximately 60-70% of the time you will be working on client sites nationally within the UK.

Working as a GeoTechnican you will carry out testing of soils and rock, assist site teams with the preparation and photography of soil and rock core prior to logging, the sampling and testing of groundwater and ground gas encountered in boreholes, and other site duties.

As a company representative on site, you may also be responsible for client liaison and maintaining communication with project and reporting managers to report site progress and planning.

Who you’ll be working with:
Reporting to the Engineering and Reporting Manager and supervised by Principle and/or Senior Engineers, you will work closely with both office based reporting teams as well as site managers and geologists to ensure successful completion of site activities and to maintain clear communication on site and with clients. You will also interact regularly with other Fugro departments including geotechnical laboratory staff, geoenvironmental monitoring teams and instrumentation and monitoring engineers.

Here’s what a typical day would be like on site:
Working in a team managed by senior technical engineers and project managers, you will be:

- Performing basic soil and rock tests;
- Supporting geologists with the preparation and photography of soil and rock samples;
- Involved in the description of soils and rocks and carrying out in situ tests;
- Responsible for data quality and management.

Here’s what a typical day would be like in the office:
Working in a team managed by senior technical engineers and geologists, you will be responsible for:

- Processing and managing site data using spreadsheets, in-house programs and Fugro’s SharePoint platforms;
- Checking field and laboratory data processed by others;
- Assisting with the preparation of digital deliverables;
- Maintenance and calibration of site equipment;
- Assisting in the production of field and laboratory reports.

Who we’re looking for:
Essential
- Numeric and methodical, with a ‘Get It Right First Time’ mindset;
- Full UK Driving licence;
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to site locations across the UK;
- Computer literate, capable of using spreadsheets and SharePoint;
- Capable of generating a safe and quality-based culture within the team;
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
- A good team player and able to form working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels.

Desirable
- CSCS qualification
