You will be hosted by Natural England, working on behalf of National Parks England, National Association for AONBs, National Trails UK and Natural England.
Job description
Do you have a passion for England’s finest landscapes and trails; our Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs) National Parks (NPs), and National Trails (NTs)? Do you want to develop and enhance the benefits these special places bring for nature, climate and people? Are you an excellent communicator and collaborator able to bring organisations together to build a vision and create a plan to deliver it?
If this appeals to you, working as the first Partnership Nature Recovery Lead for the new Protected Landscape Partnership will offer you fantastic opportunities to be at the forefront of protected landscape policy and delivery, securing environmental improvements and playing your part in creating a better future for protected landscapes.
The Government’s response to the Landscape Review committed to establishing a new partnership to build on the existing collaboration between National Parks England, Natural England and the National Association for AONBs, complemented by roles for the National Trails and National Parks Partnerships.
The National Association for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (NAAONB), National Parks England (NPE), National Trails UK (NTUK) and Natural England (NE) are coming together in partnership to create more collaborative ways of working that amplifies the impact and influence of our organisations towards our common goals.
The Protected Landscapes Partnership (PLP) recognises that we are in the throes of global nature, climate and well-being emergencies. In response, the partnership will collaborate closely on the delivery of national priorities for nature recovery, climate change mitigation and adaptation, health and wellbeing, equity of access and thriving local communities.
We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to lead the Nature Recovery workstream for the Protected Landscape Partnership. This role will work across the partner organisations to establish a shared approach to evidence and delivery, and develop the role of the designated landscapes in contributing to the Government commitment to protect and effectively manage 30% of land (and seas) by 2030.
We are seeking an individual with a range of knowledge, skills and experience: building relationships and collaboration, stakeholder engagement and leadership, national policy, and local delivery, are all key, along with an understanding of the role of land management in tackling the climate and biodiversity crises.
You need to have experience of cross-organisation collaboration, working in partnership with multiple stakeholders, and cultivating effective working relationships that can make a real difference in the natural environment.
**Principal accountability/key tasks**
As the Partnership Nature Recovery Lead your role would include:
- Champion nature recovery and advocate for the Partner’s role in delivering on national priorities, including government’s Environment Act and 30x30 target, and support delivery of the Nature Recovery Network (NRN) and the Protected Landscapes Outcomes Framework
- Provide a strategic steer to the development of a coherent, evidence-based approach to prioritise nature recovery by the partnership nature recovery coordinators and individual Protected Landscape leads
- Work closely with senior colleagues in the partner organisations, National Parks Partnership and Defra to facilitate joint working, standards (including for evidence on target contributions) and coordinated learning
- Act as a point of liaison between the Partnership and associated Green Finance streams
- Convene a Partnership Nature Recovery Policy and Delivery Forum with Defra, ALBs and eNGOs and other stakeholders to advise the Partnership on their nature recovery plans
- Build relationships with key external funding and delivery bodies alongside the Partnership Manager, with a view to securing additional funding and support to continue the Partnership and future activities
- Coordinate and oversee the delivery of the Partnership’s joint Nature Recovery objectives as defined in the Defra funded PLP Business Plan
- Work collaboratively with a team of nature recovery and evidence coordinato
