**Textile/Seamstress Apprentice**

We have a new and exciting position looking for a **Seamstress/Textile Apprentice** to work within our Textile Department at our factory in Huntingdon.

As a Textiles Apprentice, you will be trained on all procedures required within the têxtiles department which will give you an exciting grounding for your future career.

Your apprenticeship you will teach you the skills of how to alter, mend, construct and make modifications to têxtiles products.

Your training will enable you to understand the production of items within the têxtiles department, how to use IT systems to record the details, the importance of H&S procedures, and how to use sewing machines in a safe and correct manner.

**Textiles Job Role**
- On completion of training follow written instructions such as work specifications and documentation.
- Be excited to learn the skills of how to measure accurately, sew complicated materials and operate industrial sewing machines.
- Work to deadlines as highlighted by your manager.
- On completion of training, you may be required to train other colleagues as and when requested.
- Any additional work identified as necessary for the smooth operation of the Department.
- Training will be given on how to handle materials, how to lift items correctly and how to act safely within a factory environment.
- Under guidance, when required, you may be required to work at different sites.
- You will learn how to use thread machines, how to do basic maintenance and how to change bobbins.
- Be excited to learn how to do different stitch types.
- Have a good eye for detail and highlight issues if you see a problem.
- Willingness to learn what 5 S is and how to put it into practice after training.

**The Person**
- Ability to work as a contributing member within a team environment.
- Willingness and ability to work on formal training relating to the successful achievement of the apprenticeship.
- Have good communication skills and the willingness to gain problem - solving skills and be excited to undertake repetitive tasks as and when required.
- Be confident with a “can do” attitude.
- Offer ideas, never to be afraid to as ideas are exciting.
- Be motivated, be a sponge and enjoy learning skills within the exciting industry of Textiles.

**Key Challenges**
- You will have responsibility for making and developing products after training for the têxtiles department and to ensure that work is prioritised to ensure that customer needs are met.
- Learn how to prioritise work effectively.
- You will learn the current software and gain knowledge of design related software.
- Provide a professional, quality support and advisory service to customers and suppliers.
- Provide accurate information to the têxtiles team.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of drafting patterns and cutting.
- To work independently and as part of the team.
- Adhere to administrative procedures and to ensure work instructions are maintained.
- Actively maintain and improve the housekeeping throughout the working day ensuring that the têxtiles department environment is kept clean and tidy. Ensure that any potential dangers in the department are minimised - put away parts away correctly and not have the walkway blocked etc.
