Corfe Mullen, United Kingdom Wessex Water Full time

Do you love working outdoors, around the countryside, on farms and in river catchments? If so, and you also have an interest in the environment and experience within agriculture, then we have the perfect opportunity to join our team as a Catchment Adviser

**The role**

As a Catchment Adviser your role is to identify and report catchment risks to water quality (groundwater and surface water) and advise on how these risks can be mitigated as part of the Catchment Drinking Water Safety Plan (DWSP) team.

Working alongside other advisers in 20 operational catchments, you will mitigate these risks by working with and advising approximately 100 farmers/landowners across the Wessex Water region in high nitrate and pesticide catchments to encourage them to reduce or make more efficient use of nutrients and/or pesticides to remove the need for water treatment at Wessex Water sources.

You will gain a thorough understanding of each catchment and will assist with collecting samples for Catchment Scientists and devise monitoring strategies that identify the impacts of changes in land use and measures adopted by farmers that influence nitrate leaching.

**What do you need?**

You will be a self-sufficient individual with a good level of agriculture expertise and experience. You will have commercial awareness and creativity along with being a confident communicator and influencer, while also being comfortable talking to and negotiating with the farming community.

- practical understanding of field sampling (soils, crops, water, etc)
- knowledge of soils and soils management
- basic understanding of grant/funding schemes
- experience working in an environmental field
- the ability to determine and prioritise risk to groundwater and surface water quality from catchment land use and activity
- the analysis and interpretation of water quality data.

If you have the following, it would be an advantage but is not essential:

- the ability to use ArcGIS mapping system (or willingness to learn) along with ability to interpret data sets
- BASIS (Pesticide) and FACTS (fertiliser) training
- basic hydrogeological understanding.
