**Location**:Barry, Vale of Glamorgan

**Contract/Hours**:Permanent, Full-time 37 hours per week

This service core hours of operation are Monday to Friday 08:00 - 18:00, Saturday and Sunday 09:00 - 12:00 (you will work 1 weekend in 3 on a rota basis)

**A bit about the role**

This will offer you an opportunity to become part of a team that supports parents (some of who may have learning disabilities) with children and young people (from 0-17 years old).

As a Childrens Services Assistant, you will be helping them with practical, hands on advice, guidance and role modelling, to enable parents to make positive changes to their daily parenting roles. Action for Children manage this team in partnership with Vale of Glamorgan Children and Young People Service, where you will be based within Team 2 of Vale of Glamorgan Childrens Services.

The role operates similar to a trauma informed model, where our plans are carefully tailored to the individual and the trauma they have suffered in their lives.

Our aim to ensure we can provide the best possible to support to prevent escalation and breakdown, which may lead to children and young people being place within Local Authoriy Care.

**How you'll help to create brighter futures**
- Building and maintaining a strong partnerships with parents and carers
- Supporting parents with daily routines including cleaning routines, promoting self-care and infant care (0-3 years old)
- Planning and delivering complex and specialist interventions on a 1:1 basis, group or community
- Undertaking assessments of caseloads as well as reviewing and managing risks.
- Ensure safeguarding practices are always in place.
- Flexibility to accompany young people when accessing community-based activities (e.g Swimming)
- Signposting parents to available resources for additional support as and when required

**Let's talk about you**
- NVQ in Health and Social care, playwork, early years or equivalent is Essential.
- Effective team working skills and experience of team group work and lone working in the community.
- Experience of working with Children, Young People and families within communities
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
- Understanding of Safeguarding and willingness to enhance learning and report matters in accordance with agreed procedures.
- A positive, motivated and proactive approach towards work
- Demonstrate an ability to communicate clearly and sensitivity when talking to families
- Good problem-solving skills and the ability to act and adapt accordingly to situations.
- Good time management skills and reliability.
