Aberdeen, United Kingdom Scottish Government Full time

Overview:
**Board Member appointment: Grampian NHS Board**:
NHS Grampian is looking for two new members to join its Board.

Through hospital and local based services, NHS Grampian is responsible for meeting the health needs of the half-million population spread over 3,000 square miles of city, town, village and rural communities. The Board oversees a budget of over £1 billion. Since April 2016 NHS Grampian’s fully integrated Health and Social Care Partnerships became fully operational across their three Local Authority areas of Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray and NHS Grampian works closely with the three Integration Joint Boards covering these areas.

As a non-executive member of the Board, you will be expected to play a central role in guiding the strategies which address the health and social care priorities and care needs of the resident population and monitor the performance of the Board in delivering these. You will be offered the training you need to make a strong contribution.

NHS Scotland’s values are at the heart of everything that this organisation does. These values, as outlined in the Everyone Matters: 2020 Workforce Vision, are: care and compassion; dignity and respect; openness, honesty and responsibility; and, quality and teamwork. These guide the work of the Board in all that it does. As a member of the Board, you will not only need to have the right skills, knowledge and experience for the role, but also be able to demonstrate behaviour aligned to these values.

Skills/Experience Required:
For these positions you must be able to demonstrate the following **priority criterion **which is of particular importance to NHS Grampian at this time:

- Experience of financial management and business governance

If you are looking for a rewarding and worthwhile opportunity, we would like to hear from you. Applications are invited from a wide range of people who have an interest in public service and are committed to the NHS in Scotland. Please pass on details of this opportunity to anyone else you think may be interested.

In addition to the priority criterion and values highlighted above, you must also be able to demonstrate the following:

- Awareness of equality and diversity
- Ability to contribute effectively to the decision making of the Board
- Ability to communicate effectively

You do not need to be an expert in health or have previous experience of being on a Board. We are looking for people who have the capacity and commitment to develop their skills and to learn new skills they may require.

Applicants for public appointments must be legally entitled to work in the UK. Please see the Information for Applicants pack for further information.

For more specific detail of the particular requirements of the role, please see the Person Specification, which forms part of the Information for Applicants pack. Also included in the pack is more detailed information about NHS Grampian and its role within NHS Scotland.

**Time commitment**:The time commitment will vary week to week and you will therefore need to demonstrate a degree of flexibility. On average, the role will involve around one day per week on NHS Board business; plus additional time required for Integration Joint Board (IJB) business, normally up to a further one day per week. This time will be a mix of daytime Board, IJB and committee meetings, reading documents and attending stakeholder events.

**Remuneration**: £9,030 per annum (non-pensionable) is payable for your one day per week commitment to NHS Board business. You will receive additional remuneration (also non-pensionable) for your IJB commitment, paid at a daily rate of £173.66. You will also be entitled to reimbursement for all reasonable travel and subsistence costs and any reasonable dependant-carer expenses incurred whilst undertaking Board/IJB duties and for support required to help you carry out your duties effectively.

***

Appointment details: The term of appointment will be for up to 4 years. When a term comes to an end, the skills the Board requires will be reassessed. If you satisfy the requirements of the new person specification at that time, and there is evidence of your effective performance, Scottish Ministers may consider reappointing you for a further term. A non-executive member’s total period of appointment will not exceed eight years.

**Location**: The meetings for the NHS Board will be held across Grampian. There will be a blend of physical and virtual meetings, although a physical presence will be required to be able to carry out the full range of Board activities.

**Interviews**:Interviews will be held on 18 and 19 April in Aberdeen.

***
- 8 February: 5.30pm to 7.00pm
- 14 February: 12.00 noon to 1.30pm
