**Activities and Responsibilities of the Post**

**Principle Purpose of the role**

Digital technology is ever changing and advancing; as the digital media investigator you will be expected to provide digital intelligence, strategies and an investigative capability, to support your colleagues in the effective management of these offenders and protect the public from harm.

**Main Activities of the Role**
- To provide a digital intelligence and investigative capability.
- To identify digital investigative opportunities, assistance and advice in support of live incidents and ongoing investigations.
- To gather intelligence and conduct proactive / reactive investigations where digital technology and data acquisition opportunities exit.
- To produce evidence and relevant disclosure products in support of investigations and liaise where appropriate with Crown Prosecutors and other professionals.
- To provide a county wide deployment to assist with home visits and off-site digital media examination.
- To provide digital lab and field services, examinations and tactical advice in respect of the opportunities to secure and preserve evidence across all digital platforms and digital media.
- To maintain professional development in respect of all relevant digital capabilities, good practice and legislation. Promulgate good practice, advice and guidance across the department.
- Attendance at a crime scene and / or support of a search warrant may be required to assist with the strategy for the digital evidence recovery.
- Any other duties that are commensurate with the role and grade as may be requested by management.

**Person Specification**

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

- To be an experienced investigator with a proven track record of reactive / proactive investigations and / or developing intelligence to a high standard to support investigations
- The ability to review, interpret, analyse, edit, collate and present material from a wide range of different sources to compile concise reports/strategies to a high evidential standard
- Detailed understanding of IPA 2016, RIPA 2000, CPIA 1996, the management of police information, data protection, and a broad understanding of legislation and procedure associated with covert policing
- Detailed knowledge, experience and skills of open and closed source data and the exploitation of digital media and data. Recent practical usage of open and closed systems to identify intelligence and evidential opportunities
- Experience of identifying, understanding and dealing with threat, harm and risk
- Excellent written and oral communications skills including presentations / briefings to groups
- Full current driving licence

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

- Experience of working in the cyber and digital environment and knowledge of the practical challenges this presents

Hours of work are 37 hours per week
This post is offered on a permanent basis

- Whilst the role is normally based at the aforementioned location, you may be required to work at other establishments across both Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies as may be reasonably required. Police Staff Conditions of Service will be adhered to in such instances
