**Job Introduction**

**Role**

The Tunnel Engineering Manager is responsible for the technical, engineering and assurance elements of their designated tunnel asset construction and manage a team to discharge these responsibilities
- .

This team under the leadership of the Tunnel Engineering Manager will support the tunnel delivery team.

The Tunnel Engineering Manager will report to the Lead Tunnel Engineering Manager

**In general terms this will consist of**:

- Responsibility for all ‘engineering’ aspects of the tunnel delivery, including
- Preparation of all technical documentation and assurance to permit the works to procede
- the management of the Required Excavation Support Sheet (RESS) process and all the associated approvals for SCL works

The Tunnel Engineering Manager will be part of the Area Team. and report to the Lead Tunnel Engineering Manager.

**Role Responsibility**

Specific Responsibilities:

- Development of, and management of the readiness review process for tunnelling.
- Planning, coordination and production of all the required documentation to enable tunnelling to commence.
- Having a working knowledge of the relevant QA processes and implementing them with the delivery team. Responsibility for the coordination of QA deliverables; NCR, RFI,FCD, materials approvals.
- Engineering review / sign off of technical submissions
- Taking the lead on technical matters related to tunnelling, particularly methods of work, material selection, monitoring, sampling regimes
- Ensuring ongoing material testing is maintained and test data reviewed and action taken where necessary
- Ensuring that I&M requirements are fulfilled, through the I&M team, so as not to delay tunnelling works
- Contributing to the review of the Ground Movement Assessments, in conjunction with the Area teams and the subsequent coordination of any settlement mitigation works along the route with the tunnelling works
- Working with the I&M team in the coordination of the drafting of the Monitoring Action Plans for the tunnel drive
- Coordination with any settlement mitigation works along the route and ensuring that any constraints or requirements are captured in the DTAP or RESS process
- Being the focal point between the various 3rdparties / utilities teams and the tunnel delivery team, ensuring that 3rd party approvals are not delayed
- Overseeing the delivery of the RESS process, including the holding of SRG meetings, the relevant escalation process and the production of the RESS sheets for SCL works in accordance with the HS2 SCEWs and best practice
- Producing a ‘tunnel drive’ report and close out reports. Ensuring lessons learned are captured and shared

Being a member of the Engineering Management team provides opportunity to contribute into other aspects of this discipline and provide direction advice and support to the design and construction teams as appropriate.

**Required qualifications, skills, behaviours and attributes**
- Engineering or Design Management experience (essential)
- Management of ground movement experience (desirable)
- Construction experience (essential)
- Chartered (or near Chartered) member of the ICE or equivalent (desirable)
- Rail experience (desirable)
- Temporary works experience(desirable)
- Ideally you are currently working in a similar position
- SCL Experience (essential)

The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 London Tunnels Contract. Scope of works includes twin-bored tunnels (TBM), SCL tunnels, shaft sinking, bridge demolition and reconstruction, services diversions, earthworks and the constructionof site compounds.
