**Job Purpose**

As a Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner, you will be fully supported to develop your clinical skills whilst you study for your Advanced Practice in Psychological Wellbeing Post-Graduate Certificate.

You will spend 2 days per week studying at the University of Surrey, where you will be taught by experts to deliver evidence based psychological therapies for clients with anxiety and depression. The remaining 3 days will be spent working as part of our IAPT team, to develop your new skills and gain clinical experience. During this time, you will deliver low intensity interventions and comprehensive psychological assessments to support our wide range of clients.

This course is 12 months, due to begin Spring of 2023. Attendance at all University teaching days is compulsory; therefore, it is essential that you can commit to this.

You will be recruited on a permanent contract and promoted to a Qualified PWP position within our service on successful completion of the course and providing all other relevant criteria have been met.

**Post holder requirements**

We are looking to recruit highly motivated, conscientious individuals who are passionate about working within mental health. During your training with us, you will work alongside our team of qualified and Senior PWPs. You will be provided with high quality supervision and guidance, to support your training and professional development, to become a qualified PWP within a Primary Care IAPT setting.

Throughout your training year you will develop experience of holding a caseload of clients presenting with mild to moderate depression and anxiety disorders. You will need to attend all taught and self-study days required by the University of Surrey, as specified within the curriculum and work in service for the remaining week days putting theory into practice and developing new skills as a clinician.

**Post holder duties and responsibilities**:
Training and Supervision
- Attend and fulfil all requirements of the University of Surreys training course, including practical, academic and practice-based assessments. This includes, academic essay writing, reflective practice tasks, role play and observed skills practice, presentations.
- Uphold ethical guidelines and professional standards
- Present cases effectively in both case management and clinical skills supervision and engage in clinical group discussions
- Discuss and provide clinical cases in supervision, with the aid of written case notes and video/audio tapes, to review competences and progress in training
- Work alongside other PWPs, Senior PWPs and the Step 2 Lead to ensure the smooth running of the PWP team and associated waiting lists.
- Carry out agreed actions and utilise supervision and other forums to highlight barriers
- Ensure supervisor marked tasks are completed within an agreed framework

Clinical
- Manage your own growing caseload of both assessment and treatment intervention clients from referrals into the service
- Engage clients who refer into the service in an initial assessment to identify the main presenting problemand treatment focus and agree upon an appropriate treatment plan for their needs
- Provide support to individuals with a common mental health problem, in the self-management of their recovery
- Within all clinical work, assessment, and treatment intervention sessions, make an accurate assessment of risk to self and others and ensure a risk management plan is developed and agreed to
- Keep clear, detailed and accurate clinical notes of all activity with service users in line with service protocols, and use these records and clinical outcome data in clinical decision-making
- Make appropriate decisions on suitability for IAPT, adhering to referral criteria and ensuring protocol is followed to place those suitable for IAPT intervention on the most appropriate waiting list, and refer clients who may not be suitable for intervention within the service back to the referrer or alternative services
- Provide a range of evidence based low intensity interventions to individuals using a variety of different contact methods, including telephone, face to face and via other media.
- At all appropriate clinical contacts, complete the minimum IAPT data set of questionnaires in addition to relevant disorder specific measures
- Work closely with the PWP and wider team to ensure appropriate use of waiting list and stepped care model.
- Operate at all times using values of an anti-discriminatory practice which recognises and respects diversity
- Assisting in the development and facilitation of psychoeducational and therapeutic webinars and groups

**Staff Health and Wellbeing**
- Take responsibility for own health and wellbeing and utilise line management and supervision meetings to access support
