Description of Role

The Commercial Litigation Paralegal is responsible for the detailed review of the Client’s file, preparation of the client’s Letter of Claim, preparing the claim for issue and service, conducting pre-litigation negotiation with a view to settling the Client’s claim.

Role Requirements and Responsibilities

**Primary Duties**
- Carrying out a detailed review of the Client’s file to ensure its appropriateness for claim progression.
- Preparing all aspects of the Letter of Claim, including the Schedule of Loss
- Submitting the Letter of Claim to the Defendant (s) and Insurer
- Actioning protocol acknowledgments
- Dealing with responses to the Letter of Claim from the Defendant(s)
- All necessary correspondence to respond to initial enquiries and requesting further documentation
- Considering denial of liability documents
- Reading and evaluating defendant policy documents
- Writing to the Surveyor regarding Client amendments and the CPR compliant report
- Recording the Clients approval of the final Survey Report and amended Schedule of Loss
- Completing the Pre Issue Checklist Receiving and checking the amended Surveyors Report
- Checking the Schedule of Loss and amending where necessary
- Submission of the final report
- Draft and submit Part 36 Offer’s to the Defendant
- Discuss and advise any Defendant Offers with the Client for best possible settlement. Preparing and drafting the N1 Claim Form
- Drafting Instructions to Counsel to draft PoC’s
- Calculating the issue fee and requesting the appropriate funding
- Reviewing PoC’s from Counsel, amending where necessary and obtaining the clients signature

Arranging and attending Translation appointment to translate POC’s / N1 and SoL for foreign speaking clients and ensuring receipt of the Translation Certificate

**Attributes & Competencies Required**
- Required_
- Good interpersonal and communication skills to interact confidently with both staff and members of the public
- Graduate Diploma/Degree in field relevant to Legal Services or 1 year’s previous experience
- English GCSE (grade 9-1, A-C or Key Skills Level 2 or equivalent)
- Detailed knowledge and a thorough understanding of the Cavity Wall Claims process pre-issue
- Proven ability to plan, manage and prioritise workloads
- Flexible approach to working will be required to meet the Client’s needs
- Capability to undertake all assignments in a timely manner
- Desirable_
- Previous experience of use of Proclaim Case Management Software
- Detailed Understanding of The Civil Procedure Rules

**Salary**: £18,000.00-£20,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- Monday to Friday

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Sheffield, South Yorkshire: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)

**Education**:

- A-Level or equivalent (preferred)

**Experience**:

- customer service: 1 year (preferred)
