Dental Receptionists are required to work as part of a dental team assist in the provision and delivery of dental care services to patients. Most particularly by providing all front of house services as part of the overall procedures to ensure maximum contribution to the practice profitability, in line with GDC guidelines, CQC regulations and practice policies.

**Specific Tasks**:
**Appointment Book/ Treatment**

v To welcome patients and visitors and direct them to the appropriate area.

v To notify providers (dentist) of patient’s arrival.

v Review adherence to appointment times, liase with the provider and inform the patient of excessive delays.

v To schedule appointments in person or by telephone, liasing with the provider where necessary in accordance with practice policy.

v Mail out (a) Recall appointments using patient records

(b) Appropriate literature to new patients

(c) Appropriate literature to existing patients in accordance with practice policy

v Ensure patient, or patient’s representative, have signed appropriate treatment estimate and/or NHS form according to method of transmission used to the DPB.

**Financial**

v To calculate and collect patient charges, recording receipt.

v Balance all monies received at the end of each day: Ensure monies are held securely until banked: Complete records ready for banking.

v To enter and retrieve patient scheduling data, including recalls, on paper files and/or computer while maintaining confidentiality.

**General**

v Receive and redirect all incoming calls as appropriate.

v To maintain reception as a welcoming, pleasing and orderly area.

v Sell sundry healthcare products to patients/staff, giving advice where necessary in accordance with practice policy and with recommendations from clinical staff.

v Maintain stocks of healthcare sundries either ensure stock is ordered as necessary.

v To be aware of Health and Safety considerations with respect to patients and staff in the reception and access areas of the practice and ensure that all actions adhere to the Health and Safety Policy of the practice.

v Wherever possible, to anticipate patient’s anxieties and to answer questions referring to clinician/ manager for further assistance if necessary.

v Handle Complaints in accordance with the practice Complaints Procedure both Private and NHS.

v To follow practice Health & Safety codes in all aspects including resuscitation, emergency procedures and fire drill.

v To carry out any other duties requested by the employer to ensure that patients receive a high quality of patient care. To be flexible with your duties to ensure the smooth running of the practice.

**Suggested qualifications**: BTEC Advanced Award in Dental Reception; BDTA Dental Certificate

v If possible experience of communicating clinical details of treatments to patients.

**Salary**: From £10.42 per hour
