Customs Clerk

Our client, who specialise in customs clearance for both Import into and export out of the UK, are currently seeking a Customs Clerk for their team based in Essex.
Your role as the Customs Clerk will be to take bookings, arrange collections and deliveries, and check manifests once received.
You will be planning loads, receiving pre-alerts from overseas agents, and advising customs of the arrival of cargo.
**Other duties of the Customs Clerk**:
- Send load lists to agents
- Receiving and checking relevant documentation and passing on to shipping lines
- Negotiating rates with shipping companies
- Creating files both manually and on the computer system - preparing documentation, i.e. Bills of Lading
- Liaising with overseas agents / customers / hauliers
- Dealing with quotations and charging files
- Passing purchase invoices and dealing with any queries
The successful Customs Clerk will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in the industry, a good understanding of Customs procedures and strong knowledge of Imports and Exports.
Having excellent communication skills is a key attribute for this role.
