What you will be doing

We have an interesting opportunity for someone to join our International team as a Claims Executive in London or Newcastle. In this exciting role, you’ll be responsible for handling many different P&I claims, including those that are more difficult and complex, from notification to completion.

Your main duties will include:

- Undertaking routine claims handling, including personal injury matters, cargo claims, property damage claims, collisions, pollution claims.
- Verifying that the risk/claim is covered under the Member’s entry with the Club.
- Settling third party P&I claims at the most economic figure possible, in accordance with the Rules and the Member’s Terms of Entry.
- Handling Defence disputes.
- Appointing, lawyers, surveyors, consultants and correspondents and to receive and evaluate critically advice received, and act thereon.
- Notifying Reinsurers and make recoveries from both the pool and the excess reinsurers, or other contractual parties where appropriate.
- Reporting internally.
- Preparing agendas and reports.

We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys what they do and has a determined ‘can do’ attitude. A confident communicator, you should also be able to challenge and influence at all levels and liaise and communicate effectively with internal and external partners.

Your profile

Ideally, you’ll have:

- Degree (preferably in Law)
- Legally qualified lawyer or barrister
- Previous shipping law experience
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with individual members
- Previous Club (P&I) experience would be desirable or previous experience of working on claims in the maritime industry
- Willingness to travel
