**Lads Need Dads C.I.C is seeking a part-time Reading Mentor Coordinator to join our team**

**Reading Mentor Coordinator Job Description**

We are looking for an inspiring and passionate coordinator, who understands the value and importance of reading and literacy, particularly in young boys, to help expand our reading mentor provision to selected Primary Schools in the Basildon, Essex district, with proven experience of recruiting and supporting volunteers.

Hours: Part-time 15 hours a week (flexible)

Areas: Basildon

Contract length: 6 months / Salary £29,250 pro rata (August 2023 - Jan 2023)

**Main Purpose of Job**

You will be responsible for recruiting volunteer reading mentors, to cover selected schools in the Basildon district, including the provision of support and supervision.

Liaise with schools and parents of students engaged in the project

A key objective will be to administrate, monitor, measure and report on all outputs and outcomes from the project

**Key Responsibilities**

**1. Recruit and manage volunteer mentors to be matched to boys taking part in the Reading Mentor Programme**

a. Work closely with the Programme Director to recruit and select suitable volunteers, in line with the organisation’s safer recruitment policy/procedures

b. Review and monitor risks for both mentors and service users

c. Liaise regularly with mentors and schools to discuss any issues and offer support

**2. Provide support, supervision and training to mentors**

a. Provide regular supervision and support for mentors

b. Establish and maintain a regular system of contact with mentors

**3. Monitor, measure and report on all outputs and outcomes from the project**

a. Maintain records for monitoring purposes and report back to Programme Director

b. Provide accurate, effective and timely reports for management and external funders

**4. Other responsibilities**

a. Review and evaluate own performance and identify and act upon areas for improvement

b. Attend and participate in wider team meetings

c. Implement the project’s Diversity Policy across all aspects of the project

**Person Specification - Reading Mentor Coordinator**

**Experience**

Experience of delivering mentoring projects -Essential

Experience of recruiting and working with volunteers - Essential

Experience of mentoring adults and vulnerable young people - Essential

Experience of working with statutory services such as schools - Essential

Knowledge of the Basildon district area - Essential

**Skills and Abilities**

Ability to motivate and inspire others about the benefits of reading - Essential

Ability to work as part of a team and under own initiative - Essential

Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills both written and verbal - Essential

Competence in the use of ICT for project management and reporting - Essential

Demonstrate understanding of the issues facing the service user group - Essential

Demonstrate understanding of safeguarding issues - Essential

**Education/Qualifications/Knowledge**

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience - Desirable

Evidence of continuous professional development - Essential

Understanding of the importance of male role models in boys with absent fathers -Essential

**Additional job requirements**

Ability and willingness to work flexibly and outside of normal office hours - Essential

To be prepared to travel within the area of Basildon for recruitment purposes - Essential
