Assistant Herdsperson

Opportunity for an ambitious stockperson on a family-run dairy farm in south Dorset.
- Herdsperson to join a team of 3, milking 300 cows twice a day in a Herringbone 11:11 parlour, with rotational grazing and AYR calving. The applicant will be responsible for assisting milking, yard duties, day to day herd health, welfare and record keeping. There will be opportunities for the successful applicant for training and personal professional development.
- JOB REQUIREMENTS Key input towards all tasks required to run a healthy, productive herd; mental and physical stamina, interpersonal skills to work with members of your team, attention to detail, familiarity with the individual animals of the herd and technical proficiency to operate milking and other machinery.
- BUSINESS DESCRIPTION An established farming family with a successful history; the next generation are a young, forward-thinking management team, with cow welfare and environmentally sensitive farming at the core of the business. There are 2 dairies, milking 550 cows in total, breeding and rearing our own replacement calves. Support and assistance are provided by the farmer with weekly vet visits, nutrition advisor, AI technician and foot trimmer. Milk is sold through an ARLA 360 contract, demanding high standards of animal health and welfare.
