Rivers Ecology (RE) specialise in freshwater conservation, ranging from creating wetlands to
purify water, to restoring rivers and ponds. RE is the trading arm of Norfolk Rivers Trust,
with all profits donated to the Trust.

We’re seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, self-motivated Assistant Ecologist to support the
delivery of surveys in North Norfolk.

The selected applicant will assist our team with the delivery of a range of habitat and species

**surveys, including**:
Biodiversity Net Gain baseline habitat surveys

River Condition Assessment surveys

Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (including protected species scoping)

Botanical surveys

Soil sampling and topological surveys

Species-specific surveys including for flagship species

The successful applicant will also assist with data analysis, mapping and report writing. The
post is full-time for 12 months and will be based in our office close to Holt but will require
regular travel across North Norfolk.

Responsibilities and duties

Assisting with habitat, botanical and species surveys

Analysis and organisation of survey data

Producing habitat maps using QGIS

Writing ecological reports

Aiding with the development of landscape recovery scenarios

Essential criteria

BSc degree in ecology, biology or a relevant degree, or equivalent experience

A passion for ecology and wildlife conservation

**Enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated**: can work unsupervised, reliably delivering the
requirements of the project

Own transport, with business use insurance and full driving licence

A good ‘team player' with the ability to communicate and build solid relationships with a
wide range of partners and landowners

Good written and verbal communication skills

Good knowledge of UK habitats and flora

Experience using QGIS

Desirable criteria

Experience using the UKHab classification system and/or the DEFRA Biodiversity Net Gain
Metric

Experience of writing ecological reports

Experience of habitat and/or botanical surveys

Experience undertaking Preliminary Ecological Appraisals and protected species surveys,
specifically for birds, reptiles, amphibians, bats and water vole/otter

Salary

This role is paid at a salary of £22,242 per annum. Mileage and other expenses will also be
paid.
